Armoured Wizard

Trying to find a way of making a Radial Array of Objects, and placing it on a surface.
So far, Geometry Nodes seem to suit me best.
1) make your spaceship, with slopy bits.
2) make the shape to array onto it
3) Make the rest of the owl!
Erm, i mean make geo Node structure on the item to add.
a) Make a Curve Circle, and Instance Item on Points.
b) Align Rotation to Vector (Normal)
c) plug stuff into Group Inputs

/1

Now position the Array roughly where you want it, change Snapping to Face (Align Rotation to Target), and snap to face!
Adjust to required position (this may require re-snapping to Face)

With Group Inputs attached, you can change stuff.

There's a few more tweaks I'd like to sort out, but this seems to do the job, for now, and avoids the "try moving an Array, and it destroys the universe" issues I've had.

@ArmouredWizard I recommend getting the hard ops/ box cutter add on as soon as possible. The radial array modifier is one of many useful tools. The snapping options that you normally use to snap to a vertex or grid position can also align rotation to a face allowing you to place the radial empty on whatever face you want. Box cutter allows you to draw these basic shapes directly onto a face

@pidgeon_pete I have looked at HardOps/BoxCutter, but:

I'm trying to work with as few Add Ons as I can - to learn BLENDER :)

£££ :(

@ArmouredWizard that is totally valid. We've said before how overwhelming the whole scale of blender is. And it's not a cheap add on (well actually it is compared to some but let's ignore those crazy ones) so I get it. But I can tell you my blender life got infinitely better when I started using add ons so keep them in mind for later. For spaceships I love using hardops, machine tools, box cutter, cablerator, and plating generator (greebles for days).
