It has been pointed out to me the the entire game is about colonialism. I think there is a difference between killing someone and taking their land, and trying to find empty planets and make a home though, doubly so when you've got good reason to expect your current one will be destroyed. #MEA#MassEffectAndromeda
I would LIKE to see a game where we've got a miscommunication with the Kett, and it is our job to work out a deal with them where we use planets that are inhospitable to them and work in cooperation. That said, what I've seen so far is not promising.
But I also think any exploration game is going to hit things reminiscent of colonialism, and I think it is up to the writers to do their best to make it more close to the Chinese exploring around the world, or the early humans expanding out of Africa then the Europeans murdering people.
I do think the fact there was no military included on the trips is an attempt to show it was supposed to be a peaceful expedition.
That said, that strikes me as REALLY dumb, since pirates are EVERYFREAKINGWHERE in the Mass Effect universe. What if they had hit the local pirates on the way in? o.0
