Hey there #DungeonMaster.s - what are your best tips for planning a murder mystery session. I was thinking like the Rockport Express in #TheZoneCast. It’ll be #dnd5e if that matters. #Murdermystery #DnD #rpg
@CorsairHermes the closest we got was a dead body pulled from the river, and one of the PCs has an ability that lets them witness how someone died ( but with downsides if they don't hit the magic 10+ because this is Dungeon World ) and that gave me the opportunity for him to see the murder victim being murdered, by someone who appeared to be them. Now the PCs don't know who the murderer is but they do know that there is some kind of shapeshifter around...
@CorsairHermes oldie but a classic, start with the Three Clue Rule: http://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/1118/roleplaying-games/three-clue-rule
To take something from post Christie murder-mysteries you might also consider: Everyone has a dark secret, everyone has a motive, everyone has a connection to at least one other person in the space.
Finally consider what powers your players have that might bypass your whole mystery and prepare for them. It is hard to do this well because players do unexpected things.
