Day 31: FAVORITE
In 1990/91 I was a sophomore in high school and my friend Adam called me out of the blue. He and a couple of guys were getting a #DnD game together. I was in.
We played an #ADnD2e campaign and those memories are why I'm wrapping up #RPGaDay2023 with it. My first real DnD group.
I moved halfway thru high school, made new gaming friends. We played Dark Sun, Planescape, Dragon Mountain, Undermountain, Spelljammer.
It was the first #ttrpg I ever ran and designed for. My preshus
@EricHausherr I played it in high school, had amazing adventures with it and then went chasing the weirdness of GURPS. Now, as an adult, I think it's the quintessential DnD incarnation. 5e did magic to enlarge and diversifythe community and make the game more accessible, but 1994 ADnD is peak classic RPG imho
@luigirenna I was definitely on the ADnD2e to GURPS pipeline. I played little 3.0 and 3.5 because of GURPS.
@EricHausherr same. When 4e was coming out I was moving from GURPS to Silhouette and stayed there for 10 years. Played 5e from playtest until 2020 then moved to retroclones and indies, and here I am
@luigirenna I actually think I liked DnD5e a lot because I could run the same kind of game I ran in 2e with it. I did take the chance to run OSE for a couple groups as well. Great stuff and a good contrast to the 5e style.
@EricHausherr I ran Tales from the Infinite Staircase in 5e and worked well at first, but as characters grow the action economy got in the way of fun and improvisation for me. I can play 5e, but running it is a chore
@EricHausherr #Adnd .. via this book, I forged some life long friendships
