Question for the Mastofam:
A couple months back, I floated the idea of an RPG based on shonen battle anime, complete with named attacks, canon-via-flashback, and strong themes of friendship. It got some positive response at the time.
What would y'all think of that being the next game I publish? Probably Kickstarting it in July/August.
Interested?
@dbisdorf
Oh, the core dice system is already written and tested. I originally designed it for Journey Away, then replaced it when JA went full-on non-challenge. So I have a system ready for a home. All I'd need to do is fill in some of the peripherals, like the friendship system and some genre-specific details of character creation.
@JacobSKellogg you've got my attention
@Lobster_DM Anything particular you would want to make sure is included/excluded in such a game?
@JacobSKellogg I assuming that there would be some level of move creation?
@Lobster_DM I'm not sure how detailed that part would be yet (it could easily get out of hand and swallow the rest of the system if I'm not careful), but named attacks that are personal to your character will definitely feature in the game; it's one of the key tropes of the genre that I want to represent (along with fighting, flashbacks, and friendship).
@JacobSKellogg now the flashback aspect sounds super intriguing and again, I could see it getting out of hand
@Lobster_DM Right now I can think of three ways to use flashbacks:
1) Canonize your backstory in a way that's relevant to the action. I.e., encounter pirates, flashback to your childhood when your town was razed by pirates, gain bonuses to fighting pirates.
2) Retcon cunning plans instead of spending endless hours planning in advance.
3) Recall the scenes of friend being lovable and push yourself harder to fight for them.
@JacobSKellogg That feels like a tight timeline to have a game written and tested in. But I'm absolutely interested in the premise.
