Random spell idea, making Wish into a ritual.
Concepts:
Wishes do not come true if they are disclosed or told to others, trying to gather all of the grains of sand
The magi must proclaim their wish in a clear and visible manner. A passionate speech, written word, grand painting or simply shouting it out loud in the middle of a busy street might do.
After doing this, the wish will only come true when the magi no longer knows their wish nor can learn what it was through any means.
@Sahh corollaries:
Magicians trying to learn each others wishes through process of investigation and deduction, so as to counter them.
Magician who has used magic to forget their own wish, trying to figure out if they wished for something, and what. Maybe it was a bad thing they want to stop, or maybe they have become bitter and want to destroy the good/tolerable current situation they've created.
@PTR_K Yesss, it's something really difficult to pull off as a spell since the results can be so huge but also works as an excellent quest hook both if a PC would attempt the ritual but also if PCs run into or learn about someone else trying to do so
@Sahh
Awhile back, I'd come up with a system of limitations to wishes (The Secret Regulations of Desire), explaining why powerful magicians weren't just using them all the time. And, while I like my idea, there's a more elegant simplicity to the forgetting of wishes.
Might possibly introduce it as a workaround to the known Regulations if it ever seems like it might become relevant.
