Prey (2022)

Finally got around to watching Prey with my wife.

The most satisfying addition to the Predator franchise I've since the original movie. Maybe, arguably, better than the original in some ways, depending on tastes.

There were bits here and there that I kept wondering if they were a little anachronistic for events happening in 1719. But I'm no historian, and apparently I was wrong about at least one detail (cigars equivalents are pretty old).

Also, I don't know about historic Comanche communities in particular, but I've been a little leery of assuming female hunters were rare in indigenous societies, since hearing a Science Magazine article on the subject.

But, maybe her being dissuaded from hunting would have been a thing in communities at the time, or would have been a local thing among this specific community.

I watched this one in Comanche with no subtitles and it was fantastic. The story is easy enough to follow and it unlocked the part of my brain that uses context clues to determine what's going on.

Only afterward, I read that'd done a Comanche version.

I can what you mean though. Even while watching, I kept noticing details provided hints about the nature of the situation.

Yeah, not only did they do a Comanche version and an English version, all of the actors were bilingual so they filmed the scenes back to back. So they would film a scene in English, then immediately film the same scene in Comanche. Really ambitious.
