I'm currently looking to switch careers from my day job to web development. I spend a good amount of my free time going through coding courses and working on projects. My portfolio is at pawper.dev and I really appreciate any professional networking so please reach out if you are in the industry. 🙏

Hey everyone, I'm an indie tabletop game designer on indefinite hiatus from that kinda stuff, tho I do still run DnD weekly for my local friends. We're playing in a Theros campaign.

Here's some things I'm into:

Hi fediverse! Boosts appreciated on this one.

I’m part of a co-op building a platform for artists to sell art without getting exploited. I’ve been working on it for a while but there’s a lot of work to do and I could use some help. A ton of the main features are in place, but there’s still some big gaps and a lot of polish left before it can launch.

The platform is fully open source and developed in the open. It’s built on Phoenix/Elixir and Tailwindcss. Our co-op is already incorporated and established and it’s open to members that want to actually commit but you don’t need to be a member to contribute or help.

Does this sound interesting? I’d love some help! I’m also happy to answer questions. And no, you don’t need to know Elixir already. It’s pretty easy to learn for the things you’d be using it for. Even some design help would be welcome. Feel free to reply here or DM me!

job search, feel free to boost

figured id throw another post out here for this... looking for a full-time remote position. i have a decade+ worth of experience in service desk/workstation management but im not even that picky and am open to jumping fields. im a quick learner with a lot of soft skills as well. if your workplace is queer-friendly and you're in need of some help, feel free to dm me :-) thank you!

Uh I just got DMed by the COO of Tumblr asking about hiring contractors to make us fully #indieweb compliant, and possibly even #fediverse integration. Anyone out there looking for work?

Finally got improved CI/CD using GitHub actions to work, but geez did it take all evening. So many little dumb errors in my bash scripts that I had to discover and fix, and learning that rsync is really finicky with ssh syntax.

So now I have 4 steps in the workflow:
1. configure SSH
2. connect & fetch from GitHub
3. build WordPress theme scss/js
4. rsync to deploy the build folder

Why's HostGator gotta make things difficult by not supporting modern ssh keygen standards? Fortunately they support ecdsa so I was able to set up the deploy key for a GitHub repo, but it took me a while to get there. Doesn't help that so many resources have the process for deploy keys plain wrong or overcomplicated.

There is nothing quite like getting past a tech problem and getting back on track. Especially when the solution turns out to be so simple yet it took you hours to resolve. 😅😮‍💨😊

That feeling when you discover the username on the server is misspelled and that's why your ssh attempts keep failing

Re: homophobes

Now there's bigots reducing gayness to impulses, desires & behaviors and saying we shouldn't identify with baseness. That's not it. Being gay means you only get romantic/sexual/relationship fulfillment (a.k.a. a happy life) with the same sex. Having pride in that is important because these people keep telling us to hate ourselves and how our minds and bodies work.

Re: homophobes

Oppressing one's orientation or queerness isn't a valid lifestyle. The implication that self-denial is a virtuous (correct) way of life keeps coming from zealots who don't actually give a damn about us. With the new consensus that being gay isn't a choice it's now the follow-through that's a choice. Y'know, living as your true self & all.

It's not a "deeply held belief," it's not valuable or virtuous, it's dogma that's harmful, bigoted & homophobic. We don't tolerate intolerance.

An augmented reality map game about spreading messages of hope.

We Are Seeds is a web-based mobile augmented reality map game where players plant messages of hope in real world locations and then when other players visit that location and open the message in the app, the message grows, eventually blossoming into a flower. Players can then, over time, by planting and reading messages, grow gardens of hope on the map together.

We Are Seeds was developed for #ResistJam by Emily McAllan, Dave Reece, and myself.

You can We Are Seeds it by visiting weareseeds.machinespirit.net on your gps-enabled mobile device.

A ttrpg about exploring in the tracks of others.

Footprints is an entry from the 2017 200 word RPG challenge. It is designed to be printed out, written on during play, and then passed on to others after playing. It is inspired by the Chain World project.

You can get Footprints from itch.io.

Evidently I have to get my Pack of Strays up on Itch sooner rather than later because Google Drive is not letting anyone with the link view it, even tho that's the setting I have enabled. Viewers still have to request permission. 🤔

How do folks use with sites and deploy? I'm thinking I will create a gitignore so only necessary files are tracked, then use DeployHQ to deploy from GitHub to the server. Is this a good way?

Here's a reminder to put political news / discussion behind content warnings.

A roguelite 2d action platformer by MachineSpirit

Amygdala was the the first and only project released by the MachineSpirit microstudio which I founded in 2013. Leading a six person team I was responsible for game design, direction, and about half of code written. We released Amygdala on itch in 2014 and Steam in 2015 through the greenlight voting process. Amygdala was made in Java with LibGDX and Box2d.

You can get Amygdala on itch.io and Steam.
