Talking about one of our monthly maps for Patrons, I mentioned earlier that we achieved the neat gradient in the lava with an old school technique called 'split fountain'.
Here's a look at the ink, the way it blends on the screen, and the final result.
If you look carefully at the mesh of the screen in the second picture, you can see some of the places in the stencil (made w photosensitive emulsion) where the ink passes through.
On Twitter and Facebook there was always the possibility of my job or a company I am vending for looking me up, so I always had to couch what I say even as I go out of my way to not use my real name, mention where I work or post pics of my face.
Can't tell if that's a thing here too or not, but I've never heard stories of someone being looked up on Mastodon by an employer...
Lots of interest in #bookwyrm after I mentioned it in a previous toot - if you run a Bookwyrm instance and are open for new users, drop a link below?

Slow morning in the Inkling household - Jinxie is taking full advantage of pajammie pant snuggle time!
Mastodon tip: you can customize a column to list multiple hashtags (and block-list some of them too). It's a good way to discover all the posts gravitating around the topics you like (eg. for art, #mastoart is a popular one). That's really a feature I love here and wanted to share it to newcomers.
This is the map we made for this month's Patrons - I REALLY want to use a Skeletor action figure for the boss fight 💀
Printed on light grey fabric, deep purple stone for a moody vibe.
The 'lava' gradient is an old-school technique called a 'split fountain' -- you put spots of ink along the squeegee and let them blend naturally as you go, so that each print in just a little unique from the last.
It makes some neat results!
I wish society was arranged in a way where it was easier to say "I would like to travel to another place, on foot" and taking like a month to walk from the midwest to like new york or something at a relaxing pace. Without being arrested for publically camping and with any kind of material/social infrastructure that was friendly to people doing such a thing.
Dear new users:
It's alright to take your time and get up to speed on here. You don't have to hit the ground running. You might have picked up the habit of interacting with social media as it it were naturally a competitive performance--we all did--but the best thing about Mastodon and the fediverse beyond it is that it's not like that. Take some time to decompress.
It took me about six months to fully drop the armor that I'd been wearing from being on other sites. That was three years ago. This place changes lives.
Also, it's okay to be picky. Sign up at a new instance, if the first one you pick isn't the best fit possible. You'll find your home, and folks here understand it takes trial and error.
Above all, take a deep breath. What feels weird now will make sense pretty quickly.
Glad to have you.
I just realized that there's a decent chance many of you have not seen this and so I have to rectify that: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=XNrCU1wPqw8
You're welcome/I'm sorry.
👾 #feditips fedi ain’t like twitter, don’t expect it to be. The interface may be very similar but the culture is very different. It won’t likely give you a huge amount of interaction with strangers you’ll never know but like is that even healthy, really? Here you won’t get dogpiled because your instance can block instances and separate you entirely from the terfs. Here there is no algorithm that plays games with your emotions for nonconsensual experimentation and foments hate and aggression for ad revenue (also we don’t have ads). This is a real place for real people and you can be yourself here and find people you can be yourself with.
Here you can have a community and you can actually know who you’re talking to, and you can have a community all over the world. It’s going to be smaller and more intimate than you may be used to but I hope you will find that it’s better. This is a place you can fall in love with someone on another continent! I might have had a moderate amount of alcohol but I want you to know that I believe in this platform and it’s brought me much joy and I really hope you’ll like it here too.
And I would be amiss if I didn't introduce the hardest workers in the print shop*: the Inkling Fursquad! 🐾
Omen Dran Waluigi (tuxedo) - First Responder
Jinxie Danger (tortoiseshell)- Office Goblin
Bastion Pantalones (light tabby, belly, green blanket) - HR, Ambassador
Pax Noodles (dark grey tabby) - Head of Security
*For the safety of all, felines are not allowed in production or near inventory at any point! Though they will proudly inspect your sealed packages 🤩
RadKyote here, another TTRPG migrant from Twitter, looking to work on games and chill out with reasonable folks. Is anyone working on cool stuff they'd like to share? #introduction
