My #picotron vector editor is pretty much done now, so I'm just making pictures in it to test that I'm happy with it before moving on with my life.
for the nerds curious: vgfx can render these three cards at once at around 20fps in the current version of picotron.
These things have their uses but you'll have to make actual choices before comitting to a game with this kind of art.
@Sophie I wonder how well it'd perform memory and storage-wise as a way to uncompress "sprites"/graphics. Maybe using them as-is might not work well with heavier files for real time purposes, but I believe it could work as an unpacker.
@Ronflaix yeah they are fairly lightweight tbh, but otoh so are textures at low resolution with limited color palettes lol
@Sophie how hard would it be to use this to create vector cutscenes like those of Another World or Flashback?
@snapman_i_am tbh that’s exactly the kind of thing I made it for, but it still needs some extra work to close the gap to animation (mostly in-between interpolation, and maybe an animation tool - but I’m all spent on tool-making energy rn)
@Sophie it'd be kinda cool to use this for GAC style artwork that progressively renders as you explore... a vibe I have not seen in a long time
@Sophie course you'd have to slow it down quite a lot for that, 20 fps is way too fast. 1/20 fps is more like it
@terry it is probably pretty doable tbh. it'd just take a little modding so stalls execution every line or so... dunno if picotron/lua does that tho. Not something I want to do myself tho lol
@Sophie @terry a friend of mine made a trackmania level where the whole area was encased in a lot of pieces of track where the only purpose was to make the game laggy. The actual track was three ramps at different distances with the harder ones closer to the start.
then he showed it to us on the school library computers that were severely underpowered
@Sophie Seems like something that would be great for a visual novel, where 20 fps wouldn't have a meaningful impact on gameplay
@Sophie I [HEART] this aesthetic.
Now I want a game (RPG and/or adventure) where tarot draws are a part of things.
@Sophie Very cool! I've been thinking of making something with the graphical style of Mugen no Shinzou, and this just might be perfect for that.
Not that I need yet another project to distract me, but still...
@Sophie am now interpreting this as a tarot reading for myself lol
@Sophie ohhh would you like to be part of the Tarot-mat?
@sol I don't know what that is, sorry!
