I'm going to be playing in an Exandria campaign in the not too distant future and one of the points I need to flesh out (Thanks to the heroic chronicle) is a weapon my character (a hobgoblin) inherited from their mentor. Now the sticky part is that it was once wielded by a notable hero (Thanks to the DMG).
So if anyone has any ideas regarding Hobgoblin heroes from ages past then I am all ears and would be very grateful for your insight (no roll required).
@Wintermane Do you mean heroes to hobgoblins, or to the general populace? Because there’s a can of worms there that could be a whole lot of fun to open.
In the back of my mind, there’s a tale/adventure with a helpful being known simply as “the flower kobold” that dovetails into this. (Story available on request; I won’t bore you with it otherwise.)
@LurkerinDorkness I think in this case they'd have to be a Hobgoblin but could be a hero to the Kryn Dynasty goblinkind in Xhorhas. And I would very much like to hear the story
@Wintermane Less a story, than a set piece to perhaps drip into a story some day. The character in question is a lone kobold (which should set of alarm bells) who wears a lot of flowers and is apparently a total pacifist. He gets up to innocent antics around town, so he’s viewed as a colorful character, just a bit of a kooky dubstep, so he’s tolerated.

@Wintermane Cut to much later while the PCs are in the classical underground complex which appears to be of kobold construction, in a huge chamber with an opponent who means them harm. When asked if this is the occasion he’ll finally take up arms against a major opponent, he says “Silly man-things! My ancestors weren’t great warriors! They built great traps!” Then he scurried away through a tiny Hidden panel and disappears… 2/3
@Wintermane Moments later, the ENTIRE ROOM starts to shudder and chug, as if ponderous machinery has been started up in the background. Ominous slots and openings pop open in the walls at 5’ and 10’ intervals. And the “big bad” starts to look VERY confused and concerned… 3/3
