Did you know that I'm part of an Actual Play podcast? Black Armada Tales is all indie games, all the time.

Our first latest game is Rise and Fall. Our first full episode begins with the emergence of St Isaac, venerable sociologist thinker and foundation-stone of the new society, on board the generation ship. Already you can sense the B-Ark/Armando Ianucci feel of our story.

New game! Fists of Fury is about out of control teenage martial artists. It's full of drama and emotion, together with cool martial arts fights. If you would like a game where you kiss your lover in the aftermath of a fist fight with them, this game is for you.

Fists of Fury is currently available only to Black Armada patrons. As a patron you get new releases for a mere $5. Right now you get Fists AND The Ironwood Code, a Microscope hack about secret history.

New Black Armada Tales episode! We dig further into the rise of our dystopia. This episode features the Sliders, possible future rebels against the system. We also see the authorities' brutal crackdown and the heroic journalists struggling to get the truth out.

Also, have started Italian lessons online! Am currently using Duolingo and Babbel. Gonna be hammering it 'cause we're off to Italy in less than 4 weeks.

I am very excited to say that I am presenting at Big Bad Online this weekend! I will be on a panel about games on demand, sharing my experience from running iGOTH at Dragonmeet, together with lots of other wise people.

The panel is Saturday, 11:10 (UK) / 6:10 (ET)

I do love it when social media is educational for me.

Hypothetically, if I was writing a game where sign language was the common "tongue"*, but I wanted to write the actual text in English, how would I then write names? I'm thinking they're normally phonetic but maybe that doesn't make sense for a gesture-based language?

*I'm thinking this makes sense given that lots of creatures will have very different vocal apparatus, but essentially any intelligent species will have some kind of limbs that could be used for gesturing with.

Plus also watched Near Dark, which I'd forgotten about but was in fact a re-watch. Such a great movie. Though I still don't understand how ancient vampires seem to have no idea when the sun is due to rise.

Can't wait to do it again! Small conventions are the best. A week long next time. Gonna go and organise it now.

Loads of potential and we created some great scenes, but we needed more time to get into it. Even so I loved my scene with the invisible guy where we uncovered his lost murder memory using a magic mirror, and echoed it with my own murderous background. Great scene.

Also played some cool board games including Cascadia, Deep Sea Adventure, The Loop and (almost) Poisoned. I miss playing board games with multiple players. It was nice to dip my toe back in the water.

Second game was Our Haunt. I was super enthused about the premise but to be honest we used over half our time on character creation - a bit of a hazard when you're excited about a game. We created a cool renovated church as a house, full of weird stuff.

Our cast were a sort of invisible man who had lost his memory of murdering someone, a ghost in a doll, a cute cat, a ghost artist and a ghost returned from heaven who may have murdered an angel.

TTRPG-wise I played Stealing the Crone. What a terrific reinterpretation of the Stealing the Throne engine! We played the grandkids of a retired adventurer, helping him escape from a weird nursing home themed as a tavern.

An observation from multiple games now is that fully flexible magic is just the best. We introduced chocolate elementals, party potions, djinn-powered TV, and more. And this mixed very well with the naughty kids-based premise. Anarchic, silly, and very fun.

Last weekend was a lovely TTRPG gathering in a very weird cottage in Warwickshire. These were a regular occurrence for years but children plus pandemic put the kibosh on it. Doing it again was a delight - seeing wonderful friends in person and playing lots. Of. Games.

It's kind of weird being able to completely catch up with everything my follows have posted. Nobody posted a gazillion new things while I was reading my feed!

It's sort of nice. Maybe I was just following too many people on the Twit site.

What do you know, I wrote a blog article! It's been a while. This one is about how to kick-start character drama at the start of a game, because nobody likes fumbling around waiting for character relationships to get interesting.

@libfeministgeek I can't seem to follow you. When I click the button it flashes to "following" for an almost imperceptible nanosecond then returns to "follow".

Just thought I'd let you know so you can investigate!

I'm Josh Fox.

I designed Lovecraftesque, Flotsam and Last Fleet, along with many smaller games. I am one half of Black Armada Games, with @BeckyA. I am editor and a cast member on the Black Armada Tales AP podcast.

I love all stripes of indie TTRPG and wish there were more hours in the day to play them.

I miss G+. I won't miss Twitter.
