I am coming to this late, I know, but #WotC's response to all of its former partners (Kobold Press, MCDM, Critical Role, etc.) creating their own, competing game systems was to...raise prices?
What on Faerun is going on over there??
@brownriggy I have no special knowledge about Hasbro or WotC. But I do work for a big games publisher and published my own novel and have a few insights. Deals with big retailers often have to be worked out months in advance and printed books can take an especially long time to produce and ship. MSRPs are printed on books. So, it is likely that the price increases are an unfortunately long tail problem that was already in the works in a way that couldn’t easily (or cheaply) be halted.
@brownriggy Not talking about this and letting it happen might be the best case for WotC as bringing it up would only shed light on the fact that their original plan was to do the new OGL and then quickly do a price increase or to do them at the same time.
@magitism Good point.
