Up here in Zone 5a, planting most vegetables happens around Mother's Day, more or less. I can plant the cold weather stuff (spinach, lettuce, potatoes) in early to mid-April, but the majority go in Mother's Day or after.
So... the seeds are finally getting started and I've been to my plot to see how it fared over the winter. The cover crop remains kept the weeds away! Now to start ground prep...
@chgowiz What does zone 5a mean? And when is mother's day in your country?
@Irisfreundin In the US, the USDA has divided our country up into "plant hardiness" zones for helping with planting decisions - what can grow where and when to plant, for instance.

For the US, Mother's Day falls on Sun, 11 May.
@chgowiz I know about USDA zones but I find it inconvenient every time I have to look something up to understand a post.
@Irisfreundin Gotcha. If you were to mentally divide up the US into thirds going E/W, Zone 5a is in the top (northern) third at the bottom.
It starts at the border of the states of Wisconsin/Illinois and heads due west, mostly, till it hits the Rocky Mountains where it smears across that area going N/S. It then follows a rough line tracing the border between Idaho and Montana. It's not a perfect line, there are bulges and points here and there.
