The seedlings are doing very well and some of my tomatoes are about ready to make the move to the larger pots! The marigolds (2nd shelf) are trucking along and my bell peppers are sprouted.
Feeling good so far, as this is my first time doing the seedling thing, versus going to local big box and buying plants there.
Now to try out some secret fertilizer on these... we don't talk about secret fertilizer club.
@chgowiz epic! Mine are very basic.
@jonn I don't know if this was overkill or not. I saw what other folks were doing and figured I'd try it that way?
If you are up for some unsolicited advice, I think your grow lights are too far from the seedlings and the tomatoes are getting too leggy.
This is how close mine are--and then I move the lights (or the plants) as they get taller.
@MCDuncanLab Huh, I'd been doing 3 inches. I did just thin them out and they're looking less leggy/stronger stems already.
Thanks!
3 inches should be good, dunno why they look leggy then.
@MCDuncanLab I think I thinned them later than perhaps they should have? I know that since thinning them down to 1 per cup, they look a lot happier!
Yeah, I usually thin them just before when they have their third set of leaves.
I'll thin these peppers (front 4 cups) this weekend.
@MCDuncanLab Those are looking great! My bell peppers just sprouted.
I thinned my tomatoes when they had 2 to 3 sets of leaves. They might just be happy, leggy maters? We'll see after I transfer them to their bigger pots. I grew way more seedlings than I'm going to plant, just in case I screw up or did things wrong. Something will survive!
