I have found that if I don’t sketch the map in 3d I tend to end up with something flatter than I wanted. @stripey yeah, sketchup would be a good choice. I need to learn to use it, my go to 3d app is blender, but it’s not on iPad and I am often away from the desktop…
@chloethecartographer Blender is an absolute BEAST. I wish I could wrap my head around it.
It absolutely floors me every time I remember that you principally use it as a sketching tool, and I'm just like "buhhhhhh, how?"
Anyway your use of Blender really impresses me.
I mostly use FreeCAD for 3D, but I'm doing non-artistic mechanical stuff. Very different use case.
