Yochai Gal is one of the very best people I know making games and considering others and their experiences playing. He is the author of Cairn, a game inspired by Into the Odd and Knave, and it’s absolutely brilliant. This is about the NSR; a movement away from “OSR”, a label I have come to loathe personally. I hate labels in general, but the principles outlined at the link below fit well with my gaming preferences.
@chrismennell That was interesting thoughts by Yochai, Troika takes things a bit too far outside my comfort zone, I think, and my previous groups have been way too traditional to embrace these new fangled systems. But there is interesting stuff in there.
@chrismennell I've been on his NSR Cauldron and Discord but up until now I'd not been able to define what NSR actually was. The thing that surprised me most was the "weird setting" criteria which I hadn't really considered. I thought pretty much all settings are weird. I mean real life is pretty weird on its own.
