My 10th level group has an artificer, who seems really underpowered. They just found a stash of magic items collected by a dwarven arcane brotherhood, so I want to include some items that will help boost our little Kobold artificer. Ideas?
@deinol The All-Purpose Tool from Tasha's is a must-have magic item for artificers. If you don't know it, it's basically Doctor Who's sonic screwdriver. Can become any tool, gives a bonus to spell attacks, and can do cool cantrip stuff.
@deinol And a Handy Haversack is useful for anyone, but it's particularly on-brand for an artificer to have anything anyone could need, right at their fingertips.
In general, the four subclasses of artificer have such different strengths that they may as well be different classes. What type is your guy?
@deinol my advice in general is to let them do more with their tool proficiencies and do more out of combat to affect things. My artillerist kobold has helped circumnavigate problems with the application of science (and gunpowder,) caught potentially catastrophic errors in construction projects, and been someone npcs have actively sought out for their technical know-how.
@deinol in combat, artificers are a lot more tactically minded than most. A lot of their spells are battlefield manipulation and buff/debuffs, and most of the archetypes have more than one way of deploying their toys.
As an artillerist, what cannon I pick is delegated by the kind of fight, and where I can set my baby up for optimal effect.
Something as small as allowing for/including some tactically advantageous spot to find/use can be big happy for little kobold.
@deinol Also, it’s kinda mother may I, but the small version of the cannon could feasibly be attached to a party member like a Predator cannon, which is hecka fun.
