Played three games of 40K. The only annoying things was because of how they were doing matchups based on rankings, I played the same guy for the first and third game. Great guy, fun battles against sisters, but it would have been nice to see another army.
I understand for the top tier it matters, but I beat him both games and ended up 9th of 20 players.
Second game was Orks, he beat me and was third overall.
Pics once I’m not too tired to alt them.
My first game of 10th edition 40K I was matched up against a Sisters of Battle player. He had three baby knights as allies, which aren’t as scary as their bigger cousins.
I ran my Avatar right into the center table objective. He pumped a lot of fire into it, doing very little damage. But then got into melee with him and slowly wore him down.
Fun game, was close, won 36-33, only finished 2 full rounds.
Second 10th Edition 40K game. Played against Orks. He was chill, and managed to go undefeated yesterday. But being orks it’s hard to finish a game in 2 hours, so he only ended up 3rd overall.
Had a nice battle on the left flank between a couple skimmers and his mini stompas, Avatar killed a couple vehicles, was smashed by the klaw dudes inside a truck.
Lost 35-41, although I could have had 5 more if I’d run my solitaire left
Third game got paired with the same Sisters player. He was great, but still lame. I beat him again. He played better against me, only battle I lost my bikes. Also took down the Avatar. But had trouble taking the objectives. We had some close melees in the flanks. I got lucky and scored a lot in secondary objectives, and got 15 for holding three at the end of the match, 70-43.
Didn’t win anything except a pot of paint at the 40K tournament.
But I did meet up with a guy from the discord to trade my unbuilt Baneblade kit for his assembled and primed Stormhammer. It’s a Forgeworld variant that is now legendary, but my guard are mostly for fun matches anyway. So I couldn’t say no to 8 lascannons and even bigger guns.
I think I got a good deal.
@deinol You should NOT have to play the same person multiple times in an event. Did you point it out to the TO? Pairing goofs happen but if you told them about the double pairing and the TO stuck to it: that’s a major failing on their part.
@deinol I don't know how they do pairings but Swiss is supposed to guarantee you don't play the same opponent
@deinol sorry to read that.
I'm just gonna be really curt giving my opinion here: pairing the same opponent in a tournament is not cool. You spend around 7-8 hours playing games, and having 67% of that time dominated by one person... Well I can imagine better things. Also, if you take opponent score as a tie breaker, that's not gonna work at all
@deinol I see pictures like this and think to myself, "maybe I should get into 40k, it looks really cool." Then I remember that I have too many other hobbies that are time and money sinks.
