One of my big goals for the coming months is to finally get comfortable in emacs.

Everything I read about emacs makes it sound like an environment in which I could do good work.

I haven't spent any serious time trying to learn it up to this point in my life, because it's complicated, and because vim and/or nano has always met my needs.

But org-mode plus a built in scripting language is starting to sound pretty nice.

@ajroach42 Used emacs for years. To me the killer app isn't org-mode, or elisp scripting, but magit. Best damn git frontend I've ever worked with. In my current job I'm not using emacs (for the first time in many years) and magit is the thing I miss the most.
