1 favorite/boost = an honest opinion about fantasy, science fiction and other genre culture.
Grimdark is a stupid name for a subgenre.
No #ttrpg product needs to be more than 60 pages.
Jar Jar Binks is under-rated.
Boarding school sub-plots in coming-of-age novels (e.g. Robin Hobbs’ Soldiers son-trilogy, or Rothfuss’ The wise man’s fear) are always predictable and stereotypical.
I like Sanderson’s writing a LOT. It is so entertaining! But his public persona and the fan cult encircling him is so off-putting. Not to mention the Mormon stuff. #BrandonSanderson
The 1991 #TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles-movie is awesome.
Robin Hobb is one of the most important writers in contemporary fantasy literature. Her Realm of the Elderlings novels, published 1995-2017, are a stunning feat of storytelling and worldbuilding. #RobinHobb #fantasy
If you are not watching THE DRAGON PRINCE on Netflix, you are missing out. #netflix #TheDragonPrince
I love Naomi Novik.
Terminator (1984) is the most cyberpunk-looking movie ever made.
No Final Fantasy-game has ever had a good plot. People confuse “complex” with “good” #FinalFantasy
Buying books in a brick-and-mortar bookstore is superior to online shopping in every way. #bookstores
It is a disgrace there is no Elric movie.
Elves are cool.
The #ttrpg hobby attracts a lot of weird people.
I love the parts at the beginning of genre stories before the mysterious wizard shows up or the spaceship picks up a distress call, that just describes normal everyday life in the world.
Everyone must read T Kingfisher (@ursulav). Her books are the best.
Best recent #StarWars-scene: Luke at the end of #TheMandalorian s2. The most striking illustration ever of how damn powerful Jedi are. Mando and co, known to be pretty damn tough players, don't stand a chance against those death stormtroopers. They were running for their lives etc. Luke strolls through them.
The fantasy that influenced me the most as a kid was:
- The He-man ads in a Swedish toy store’s Christmas catalogue circa 1982
- CS Lewis’ Narnia
- Jrr Tolkien (and Inger Edelfeld’s cover art for the Swedish editions
- David Eddings
- Swedish rpg-artist Nisse Gulliksson.
There are three kinds of fantasy: the one where there are elves, the one where there are no elves, and the one where there are 30 different kinds of elves. #elves
There are two types of fantasy: The one where wolves are evil and the one where wolves are good. #wolves
The Dragon Age games are amazing, but wow, they look weird #DragonAge #aesterhics
Since my first exposure to sci-fi was the Swedish role-playing game Mutant (1984), I was never promised flying cars, but rather anthropomorphic telepathic moose with muskets.
I’m fed up with ” genre-bending books”.
Please return to New Crobuzon, China Miéville. Please!
One of life’s mysteries is that no one has managed to make a good movie/tv-adaption of The Phantom
Åke Ohlmark’s Swedish translation of #LotR is better than the original text. (Not counting some errors.)
Netflix SHE-RA is amazing.
I loved this trailer. #heman https://youtu.be/81wyj65SJIo
As a DM, I find dungeons tedious and boring to run. As a player, I feel the same - with the additional frustration of not bring in control.
This aversion to dungeons may be due to my aphantasia.
Reading David Edding after learning about his child abuse conviction is very uncomfortable. Some stuff in HIGH HUNT are just wft
Mercedes Lackey’s obsession with bdsm-villains is… fascinating.
Most SF novels are just people talking about logistics.
I mean, I at least kinda like Billy Zane?
But honestly, I think a lot of it comes down to the costume. There's just a lot of blank purple spandex, which can be hard to make look good in live action. No cape, no distinct silhouette, no easily brand-able icon, y'know?
@DapperDinobot @gorillotaur
The Billy Zane was a fun campy movie.
Probaly it´s due to the fact that The Phantom has its biggest fanbase in Europe, and not USA.
@gorillotaur Blocked and reported.
@gorillotaur Är det verkligen så? Verkligen?
@pelles Bevisa att jag har fel!
@gorillotaur Today I learned... and I'm appalled. (I never read any of his work besides the Belgariad, and that was borrowed from a friend so at least he never made any money off me.)
@gorillotaur "Avfölj Gorillotaur"
@gorillotaur Only the first few?
@DavidGoldfield 1-3 are amazing
