Very cool system for handling “random” encounters over on Goblin Punch.
I like that this creates player facing tension and doesn’t feel as random as the overloaded encounter die.

However it makes torches feel trivial and I’d have to see how a full heal worked with different systems. A solid first version for lots of people to hack though I’m sure!
@james this is very cool, I’ll be trying this in place of regular encounter rolls next week! I’ve always had an issue with encounter checks and this seems like an interesting solution

My 13th Age game isn’t very dungeon delve-y right now and I think I’m going to be heading towards a conclusion soon but my next game will try this one out
