Tarot-based initiative for #ttrpg, someone I have put no thought into beyond writing this down with no editing:
Every PC has a hand of <X> tarot cards, where <X> is between 1 and 7, based off speed. At the start of each round, the GM flips a card from the top of the deck, to represent the enemy initiative. Every player then plays a card from their hand into the trick.
Once every card is played, resolve turns for every triumph. Then resolve turns for every card that followed suit (don't
double up if the suit is triumphs). Then resolve turns for every card that isn't a triumph and doesn't follow suit. All these resolutions go from high to low. Aces are 1s.
Finally, every PC draws back up to their starting hand size.
If you don't have a tarot deck, play without triumphs.
Basically, you're just playing a normal trick-taking game without required suit-following. Might also be fun to give a bonus for initiatives of 11+ and 21+.
