The Marvels is delightful, you should absolutely go see it.
More seriously: do not let this one bomb, folks. This is a Marvel feature with three female headliners, two of them women of color, directed by a woman of color, written by three women. If this does poorly (or even not spectacularly enough), it will be taken as evidence that women shouldn't feature prominently in blockbusters.
Let's prove them wrong.
(And also everybody is fucking glorious in this, it's just super fun.)
Also there is only one bonus scene mid-credits, but there is a fun easter egg at the very end of credits. These are the important things to share, after all.
@miriamrobern @courtcan The fun outweighed any of the flaws for me! Iman Vellani is a goddamn treasure!
@miriamrobern
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plus cats!!
@jcrabapple
@miriamrobern @Chigaze How can a person watch this film without at least enjoying parts of it. The humor was great, the action scenes were fun, the training montage was so cool. They explain a plothole in a great way. There are consequences and character developement. I hate the hate this film gets.
@miriamrobern or, ya could, not go to the movies in theaters because you'll be at high risk for COVID.
@miriamrobern and the enemy is a woman and there are women everywhere and it is absolutely worth seeing. So much fun. Some _really_ dodgy physics but a lot of fun.
Love good movies. Waiting to see how this one to plays out, as a stand-alone.
However, the Marvel Universe is begging the question, 'How many times can you ride the same horse to death?' Loved the concept, but bowed out after the first dozen or so.
@miriamrobern We saw it last night too. It was the first Marvel anything I've enjoyed in a while. Their universe has become so dour and just ... un-fun.
The infectious enthusiasm that Kamala Khan brings to everything really elevated that whole film. It was great to see characters actually enjoying themselves again. :)
@miriamrobern
I'm done with the entire concept of superhero movies so unfortunately I'll give it a miss (TBF I've only watched about 4 marvel films)
Especially since Amazon's The Boys ultra-realistic portrayal of what a world with superheroes would actually be like.
Sorry to drop in with some nasty cynicism!
@miriamrobern I have my tickets booked already for tomorrow night.
@miriamrobern okay tightly written and sans spoilers my favourite sequence was underscored with "Memories".
This hit hard and is probably my favourite post Endgame MCU movie.
Was short, punchy and hit the emotional pay offs it was setting up.
@numberw1tch I had to be told afterwards that that music is from Cats.
@miriamrobern
But it is necessary to watch any TV series before? Because I remember being pretty pissed with Dr Strange 2 being tied to Wandavision without further explanations or recaps inside the movie itself.
@Victor_el_DM @miriamrobern I’d say it’s *not* necessary anything before seeing #TheMarvels. While two of the three leads were introduced in D+ shows, the movie definitely doesn’t assume you’ve seen them. There are lines explaining their origins and key plot points, and maybe more importantly does a terrific job of introducing their personalities. You’ll soon be swept up in their relationships and interactions, and the truly fun story unfolding on the screen.
@Victor_el_DM I feel like there was a tiny bit of context from Secret Wars that I didn’t have but it didn’t make anything incomprehensible.
