The Gaunt's Ghosts book is okay, its pretty good even. The core problem with it is that he keeps halfway reminding me of another commisar who, sure, takes himself a little less seriously and functionally Cain only really succeeds by being an Imperial Saint with a Blank sidekick so its very different from Gaunt's style of Lead By Example, follow the rules, be kind.

Which is fine, but its still close enough to prompt a comparison to Caiphas Cain and its not a comparison that anyone should invite

The role of Commissar can be an interesting one but to make it work as a PoV character you do need to focus on the playboy with a golden heart angle and that is fine but... Sandy Mitchell will always have done it better.

Like, what if Cain's books werent funny isnt bad because those books have a lot going for them but reading Gaunts Ghosts is just like... but what if it was funny?

Ghostmaker 40k book

Doesnt change the fact that if I did actually play warhammer and Imperial Guard I would absolutely paint them blue and white and it would be a mixed gender regiment lead by Jenit Sulla

I have spent a lot of time thinking about this, honestly, which is why it would be Sulla's 597th instead of Kasteen's. That way I dont have to explain/argue about how Jurgen is so OP.

The Smallest Wars

I know you might have been mislead by my pfp, but the problem is that I have, first off, never been the one who paints minis. When I played D&D during lockdown my roommates painted so many minis but my hands are not steady and I doubt I could paint well. And, though the White Scars resonate with me I have heard tell that they are not particularly forgiving in that regard and might be a pain in the ass even for people who are good.

@montaagge just paint them at your level: there's only a difference between painted and unpainted models. Between painted models and models painted by someone else there isn't. If we were to judge others' paint jobs and gatekeep them out of miniature wargaming, we'd not last as a viable community.

@erikcats yeah, but I still think that White Scars sound terribly ambitious in many ways that lead me to thinking it would be easier to start with the Guard

@montaagge you're actually free to just give the money colour and say these are my white scars but the pink inflammation battalion or something like that 😆 I am trying to corrupt you into doing whatever you like haha

@erikcats I just kinda assume that this is a play to push me into a complicated, not particularly favored by the meta army in some long term play to defeat me at @phoenix_comics but I still think that the Valhallan painted guard regiment is the safer bet for me.

@montaagge I don't play 40k. Never have, never will, and especially not in the United States, which I can safely say I've got no plans of visiting in the next decades. You're safe😆

But I do encourage people to have fun in their hobby, not to stress over what others might think (unless you want to play guardspam dwarves in blood bowl then you can in the sea hahaha). Which seems a rarity in the 40k thing
