I've written something I want to share!
It's a 5-minute intro/demo for an IF called "Kite Day in Reign Country." I've been working on it with my 16-yo, following their vision.
The thing you should know about Fnimlings is, in Reign Country, the collective fears manifest. Fnimlings are just the sweetest little guys, but fear hunts them.
Check it out if you're interested:

In the next 20 minutes or so!
Designing games, live, on-stream, by the literal seat of my pants (because I will be sitting in pants).
#introduction Hi everyone! I'm a Jewish game developer and science educator based in Brooklyn, currently Kickstarting a Passover storytelling game called Ma Nishtana. I love weird and whimsical art, personal and emotional stories, solo and two-player games, and ritual-based play. Find my work at https://gabriellerab.itch.io/
Let's try a gaming opinion post, just to see how it flies here:
...
If you permanently stop asking "Is this a roleplaying game?", declare that literally every game in which you roleplay at all, however tenously, is one, and then instead ask "What tradition(s) of roleplaying games is this part of?"...
You can then accept that House and Cops & Robbers are Roleplaying Games in the children's tradition. And so on.
And then: Things open up quite nicely.
@darkade @blinks @SymbolicCity https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/optional/elasticsearch/ is the docs on it, and it only allows searching over your own messages and has to be installed on the host machine. Our host will do this for an additional €5/month at our current scale but I'm not sure it's worth it to only search your own posts
@SymbolicCity Around 414 so far.
If you're coming from Twitter, you might not recognize the "post privacy" option.
Basically, each post you send on Mastodon can have 1 of 4 privacy settings: Public, Unlisted, Followers-only, or Direct.
Basically, Public goes far and wide, Followers-only is nice for more personal stuff (and can't be boosted -- retweeted), and Direct means it's like a Direct Message to any and all users you mention (tag) in your post.
Yesterday when signups spiked it was a surprise and it pointed out we were _way_ behind on rules and domain blocks.
https://dice.camp/about/more is now up to date with server rules and a decent set of server-level blocks.
@brianlavelle the official Mastodon one imo https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mastodon-for-iphone-and-ipad/id1571998974
@craigmaloney gonna be real disappointed when I go back to just silent admin-ing here 😂
@PaulCzege it's truly better tbh
Uh, we got linked from Vice? https://www.vice.com/en/article/qjbqjd/if-you-want-to-leave-twitter-because-of-elon-musk-these-are-your-options
lol okay that took a solid 1+ seconds to post, may be time to look at paying up some more
We've now reached the point where when I approved a batch of new accounts there's ofter more to approve when the page reloads…
I suspect we may hit scaling issues sometime soon and I will throw money at the problem, but I want to see how far we can scale on the current budget first. It's definitely slowed a bit, but not bad for me so far.
Well now signups are even faster https://apnews.com/article/elon-musk-twitter-takeover-2d0eb4e0511fe0e296fd6974a851a252
