One thing that's odd about being an attorney is how different the different jobs you can have are and how few of us can really imagine ourselves doing the other stuff.
Like, I do criminal defense. I cannot imagine not being bored out of my mind if I had to do transactions or estates or something with a slower pace.
(Honestly, there are times I feel bored compared to the summer my office was understaffed and I had twice the case load I now carry)
@squishymage42 this feels like a thing I often have to remind people: law is a pretty diverse field. I spent 30 minutes talking to a person who practices Yacht Law (!) and I felt like the overlap with anything I’ve ever done (employer based immigration and a little criminal) is so far afield that we may as well have different jobs.
@profounddark I interned and then worked a year in a single lawyer general practice for the first year of my career, then I've done almost nothing but indigent defense since then (some divorces for legal aid, one estate, one adoption)
It's so different when I talk to other folks in the local county bar who work in mid sized firms doing civil stuff.
@squishymage42 but also I will take this moment to acknowledge that the TTRPG scene is full of lawyers. Like actual lawyers, not just rule lawyers.
