Day 10 -

I find a lot of roleplaying to be intense and the opposite of relaxing so finding exceptions is rare and welcome! I'll go with Tea Ceremony by Niamh Schonherr (at foxmomnia on twitter) since there's mechanics to keep folks from too much activity. Read this game as a good example of being present and supportive and low key for a group of pals!!

Day 11 -

Monsters, fluffy or segmented bugs, and other creatures with strange neat bodies being anxious and trying their best to accomplish the mundane.

*looks at games in half-development*
slime
medusa
kaiju
dragons

okay maybe mostly the monster part atm

Day 12 -

I get my work out mostly through word of mouth or more recently running games at cons or events. I enjoy games that can be a public spectacle and I like turning games into a small event that's weird to bystanders because I'm a diva.

One day I'll make an itch io for my games

Day 13 -

Influences
- nearly every Karen Russell, Kelly Link, and George Saunders short story
- Ryan North and Joey Comeau
- twine - Horse Master: a Game of Horse Mastery and Sabbat

I want to keep adding to this through the month!

Day 14 -

Dreams/Goals
- Release a collection of nanogames based on a central theme
- Have someone else run one of my games without my knowledge
- Feel more comfortable playtesting!
- Run more games locally and at non-con events!

Day 15 -

I tried designing on a twitch stream once and it was 3 hours of stream of consciousness. It was probably entirely indecipherable but it still made a good exercise of having to verbalize why I’m doing what I’m doing. Should try again soon!

Day 16 -

Had a collaboration once and I really enjoyed it even though the game was never released! Hey hey hey I want to collaborate more with folks!!

Day 17 -

My favorite feedback type is usually of the form "At MOMENT, I felt EMOTION" the very first time someone told me they felt the exact specific emotion I was aiming for, I felt so validated!

Day 18 -

Current Inspirations -
- Reeling for the Empire by Karen Russell
- Fan art of godzilla and mothra cuddling
- Alex Roberts' interviewing style
- A Cozy Den by @kiramagrann
- a pinterest board that is not appropriate for main

Day 19 -

I hadn't thought about it during writing but I've had multiple people compare my games to Undertale so let's go with that one!

One day I want this answer to be Space Funeral

Day 20 -

Design Tools
Still playing around with this, but I use Trello for keeping track of status and work to do.
Post-it notes for mobile framing and organization
And then a wave of google docs!

Day 21 -

Um I

Uh

Ive only run um

1 playtest ever

I think they’re really scary and I’ll do more in the future!

Day 22 -

Fresh game ideas go into a weird email draft that I'll never send. Here's how it begins currently

Y'all here have seen this document before but I've reorganized it

Day 23 -

I want to shoutout the good folks who've run the Golden Cobra competition - (This used to be twitter handles so I'm gonna use names here)

Strix!
Banana Chan!
okay I know this one @jmstar !
Hakan "The Powerful Cardigan" Seyalioglu!
Evan Torner!
Sara Williamson!
Emily Care Boss!
Kat Jones!
J Li!

For helping drive me (and many others) in making games!

Day 24 -

corny answer don't care!

Having folks leave a game I wrote enjoying their time with one another! Even if that's mostly on the players, I feel like I had a part in connecting people in a new weird way! That's why I do this!

Day 25 -

Being an RPG designer means being an artist and tearing down barriers to other people doing the same

oh and also having like 7 games that "I'll get to one day"

OR REAL ANSWER (from my AD twitter account - I think I consider this place halfway between public and AD twitter)

being an rpg designer means being super gay we tricked you

we lure you in with D&D haha isn't this fun bop that drago on the snout and take the cash

then

huh do you think that dragon is mad or sad about that

then

who do you think that dragon kisses

congrats you're in our monsterhearts campaign now

Day 26 -

I haven't been able to fit any rpg blogs/streams/podcasts into my routine but y'all should still scope Backstory, Friends at the Table, and Modifier!

Day 27 -

I wanna shout out @labmouse and @devp of Sweet Potato Press! The Companion's Tale is one of my favorite play experiences since it involved an owl who loved someone so much they became human cuz it's tough to smooch with a beak

sweetpotatopress.com

Day 28 -

I don't remember a lot of interviews but I usually like Werner Herzog's since he has a general disregard to other artistic trends happening in his medium. His safety record regarding creativity is um not something I find inspiring

Kitty Stoholski @thefuzziestkitty

Day 29 -

I adore the NYC community which excels at curating international (and usually emotionally crushing) games and the once described New Jersey Weird Game Design Crew for their often comedic or wistful form of play!

Day 30 -

1. Believe in yourself!
2. Find your best accountability system
3. Listen to folks!
4. Be inspired by things that aren't roleplaying
5. Edit mercilessly, but don't throw anything out
6. Love. Love yourself. Love what you do. Love others.

Day 31 -

Shoutout to @kiramagrann for putting this together! There were challenging days of trying to put my emotional wells into concise words and I loved folks' responses! <3
