best four-hour one-shot newbie-friendly games?

@echo four hours is a big ask. I'd suggest a two hour game, which is the length of a movie and thus not very daunting. Even if you have four hours! Bring three games you like, prepped and ready to go, and let them choose. Don't worry about finishing, just whet their appetite and let them decide if they are interested in more.

@jmstar Man, I got used to eight-hour one shots, four felt too short for me! It sorta has to be four, since it's our regular session slot and the players are customers, so they're paying for a certain amount of game

@echo Cool, I was assuming "My neighbors asked me what roleplaying games were". I'd still offer things you really like; enthusiasm is infectious. If I had to run a game for four straight hours I'd pick Apocalypse World or something similarly player driven. Maybe bring two or three flavors and let them pick. AW, Monsterhearts, Night Witches maybe.

I second using a game. Honestly, Dungeon World was my crossover from to... everything else. It's familiar enough, but different in all the right ways.

Some other options would be Masks for a supers game or Monster of the Week, which is already designed to be episodic.
