My hope for the future is that we can decouple the sense of belonging and community and common purpose that people receive from religious institutions from the nonsense dogma that those same institutions also push.

The people WANT to belong to something bigger than themselves. But they want it to make sense. Religiosity doesn't; it's just "weird".

And not the good kind of weird, like what you find in Gnosticism.
