I've been working on a blog post about a system of generating character values I've been using on my own for a while, and I'm curious: of the following pairs, which value do you say you value more (you, not your ttrpg character)
which of the following do you value more?
(In this case the words are a bit less neutral than I'd like - it's a work in progress. Think, would you see your values as closer to Gawain in Gawain and the Green Knight, or like your average trickster figure in mythology?)
which of the following do you value more?
I have 10 of these so sorry for spamming your timeline
to explain more I'm hoping that at least one person will vote on each option; my goal with this is to come up with values which are both opposed and where both a protagonist or an antagonist could take either one
The first one is like: "Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends"
the second is like "ok but if they just killed gollum at the beginning a lot of problems would have been avoided"
For this one, under survival, include things like putting your family first
This one is like, do you prefer people who express emotions freely and exuberantly, or people who are more reserved? Do you think it's better to be more in touch with your emotions, or to have more control over them? Think of not just like sadness but also joy or anger.
Think of like the conversation in lord of the rings about second breakfast, how you feel about nice clothing or fancy dice, whether you might describe your home as "minimalist" or "maximalist", how you feel about camping on vacation
this one is maybe particularly culturally specific
How important is being polite? Do things like etiquette or professional methods of communication make communication easier or worse?
last one
For this one don't necessarily just think of like the broad cultural traditions of the dominant culture, but like is it important to you to connect to any elements of your past, maybe even specifically in your family? Do you find yourself wanting to return to the place you grew up or seek out something new? Do you prefer to eat the foods you grew up with, or try new things?
@seedling I feel like it’s a matter of balance, but if you could only have one, then frankness wins.
@seedling accidentally voted survival when I meant to vote self-sacrifice if that makes any difference
@seedling this was kind of fun to go through, curious to see what comes out of it!
