Pope Auberginius XXXVII<p>When I originally threw a <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/plot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>plot</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/complication" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>complication</span></a> at the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> group, I thought it would be neat to show them the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/consequences" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>consequences</span></a> of their decisions. What I did not expect was that the player characters would build up an overlapping web of possibilities and differences of opinions, looping in three <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/backstories" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>backstories</span></a> while discussing what to do with the <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/shifty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>shifty</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/NPC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NPC</span></a> they captured. And they considered possibilities that I had not! Clearly I should throw more false <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/gingers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gingers</span></a> at them 😁</p>

Lucas Asher<p>Backstory length is not always the best judge of whether a backstory is going to be "good" or not. What's important is that a backstory provides the start of a character's arc; it can't resolve the arc, or it will make the character not work for a campaign.
