I apologise that I don't have an exact cite at hand, but I recall learning about things such as inter-operability agreements (for provincial/territorial/state drivers' licenses) that apply across the USA and Canada.

And those documents in turn rely on foundational ID documents such as #BirthCertificates, #CitizenshipCertificates, etc.

IIRC this is a treaty-level agreement so not simple to ignore.

A good moment for me to make my (generally futile) reminder that a #MarriedName is an #AdoptedName / #AssumedName that is recognised by tradition and convention, and is not the same as a #LegalName.

If one obtains a #LegalChangeOfName there are additional filings (and sometimes fees, affadavits, etc) with the local #VitalStats / #Registries office, which will also result in an amendment to the name on any #BirthCertificates issued thereafter.

Wild thing I discovered by accident: My research area overlaps with many identity documents, so while I've only published on #birthCertificates I've also done a fair bit of unpublished work on #driversLicenses.

Found out from a red-haired friend that their DL claims they're blonde. Did an informal survey of red-haired acquaintances and discovered most are listed as blonde, not red. I wonder whether this is a holdover from B&W pics rendering it as blonde?

As you know (better than most, I expect!), #trans issues cross many jurisdisctional boundaries in Canada due to federal-provincial responsibilities.

Thus it was and is helpful to keep an eye on (eg)how any given province/territory deals with amending #birthCertificates as that in turn impacts how (eg) Passport Canada processes our applications at a federal level.

The 'no match' the clerk had pointed out was well beyond my control. I explained that the laws/policies/regulations governing #driversLicenses and #birthCertificates were not the same, and that's why my license said I was the man I am, and my birth certificate declared me to be the woman I wasn't.
