So Leonardo da Vinci had plans to test a flying machine on Monte Ceceri in Italy. There is some disagreement about whether any actual tests happened. But we know he wanted to because he wrote a bunch about it (some of that got rolled into the Civilization VI theme song). In particular, this piece of writing:

"From the mountain, which bears the name of the great bird, the famous bird will take flight, filling the world of his great fame."

In the original Italian, there's apparently a bit of a pun in there: Monte Ceceri is named after the swans that used to frequent its slopes. Da Vinci was really tickled with the idea of a little bird being launched off a big bird.

Why do I mention this?

Kitty Hawk is an English bastardization of an Algonquin word. Also represented as "Chickahawk."

In Algonquin: "A place to hunt geese."

History has a weird way of rhyming. Leo had the right idea; wrong bird.

Finished my first two games of #Civilization6: a diplomatic victory with the Netherlands and a domination victory with Indonesia. I usually prefer the culture or science route, but I amassed diplomacy points too quickly and that Jong armada was too powerful not to use.

On the eve of the launch of a new Civilization game, I reflect on Civilization VI...a game I've played quite a bit, and have enjoyed, yet sometimes devolves into a real slog.

But, how do I want Civilization VII to fix that...?

I want to play fedi people at Civilization VI! Are there enough people around with interest to get a regular little game going?

I believe Civ shines the best when it gets to blossom as a thought-heavy tactical game: that is to say, I'm fed up of random (impatient, single session focused) players online demanding turn timers or simultaneous war turner. If we're doing this, we should do it properly: as in we should be prepared to play for multiple sessions and to take the game at an organic pace.

If you're interested, then please reply! Boosting for engagement is also very welcome - please help me find opponents!
