Superdave!<p>I keep forgetting I have to use the 'fn' key, in combination with the function keys, to get the behavior I want. E. G., I need to do 'alt+fn+f1', to get to the Mate menus. Just plain 'alt+f1' toggles audio-mute. There's probably a way to change this in BIOS but those menus are inaccessible. Maybe Dell has a utility for doing this? <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/gnu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gnu</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
Superdave!<p>This here toot comes, to you, from a newly-linucized Dell Latitude, which I bought, from Comcast, at a deep discount. It came with Win 11 Home, in S-Mode. I installed the Testing edition of <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/gnu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gnu</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> from the latest live medium. So far, it is working well. <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/today" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>today</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/computer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computer</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
Superdave!<p>Looks like the kernel, pipewire, dbus, ibus, caja, and a bunch of other foundational stuff upgraded. <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/today" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>today</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/gnu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gnu</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> Time to reboot. Please, Trixie, don't be broken! HaHaHa!! I know, you are the "testing" branch. <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/computers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computers</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> It's a gloomy day, so, housekeeping. Yah.</p>
Superdave!<p>After upgrading Wine to version 10, I deleted my old folder and made a new 32-bit environment, into which I installed two <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/retrogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogames</span></a> <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/audiogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audiogames</span></a> and they both seem to work. Had to add some Windows runtime dependencies, too. <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
Superdave!<p>Good Morning, Happy Saturday, all! Reader coming soon. More <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> after she leaves. My date is coming this evening, for kisses, cuddles, and orgasms. I think he's bringing a home-cooked dinner, too, as has become our custom. Other sheet may happen, who knows! <a href="https://queer.cool/tags/today" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>today</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>In the latest batch of upgraded packages on Trixie, done a few minutes ago, <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/libreoffice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>libreoffice</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/thunderbird" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>thunderbird</span></a> and <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/pipewire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pipewire</span></a> were included. There was also a kernel and a bunch of libraries. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/today" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>today</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>Playing on a calkey instance at <a href="https://bostonsocial.online" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">bostonsocial.online</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> and finding setup challenging. Most of the form controls are unlabeled. I have to keep switching the screen reader between focus and browse modes, to see what field I might be filling in. I have an account, but no posts in tl. Trying to look at trending topics. Tomorrow, this instance may become <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/firefish" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>firefish</span></a> according to an announcement. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/computerplay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computerplay</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>Upgrade done. Let's see what's broken. Glad to see: pipewire and friends aren't broken, though they were among the things upgraded. The bird and fox are same. Most of the upgrade looks like libraries. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/DebianTesting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DebianTesting</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> Now, it's Supper Time. Let's find out what the Food Fairy brought me <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/today" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>today</span></a> It's sitting on my counter top, awaiting consumption.</p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>About to upgrade 142 packages in Trixie. Wish me luck! LOL! <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>Time to install some programs and change some settings. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/MateDesktop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MateDesktop</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>Behold! A beautiful, clean Mate desktop, showing only my home folder's icon! <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> That reinstall was quick and easy! If I were to try adding Mate to an existing system, and make it the default, I'd still be messing around, and there'd be duplicate apps and messed-up defaults. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p><a href="https://4bear.com/tags/today" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>today</span></a> is a very early <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/SignOn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SignOn</span></a> I got very little sleep. Been lying awake, rolling around, and talking to myself for hours. Since I'm up, I'm going to put <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/gnu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gnu</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> onto my Think Penguin machine. At a friend's urging, I'm installing the Testing edition, code named Trixie. It offers a very recent kernel, the <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/pipewire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pipewire</span></a> audio system, and installer improvements, to name a few. On this one, I'll install the GNOME desktop and check for <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> improvements. I did the backup last night. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>I just updated this installation of Trisquel <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> 161 packages got upgraded, one got removed, and one new application got installed. It's a <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/VOIP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VOIP</span></a> tool called Jami. When last I played with this tool, I knew of nobody else using it, so, don't know how well it works. An odd thing: when I restarted, after the update, I found that the volume was at 100% for the talking login greeter. After I logged in, the volume was set to what I want for Dave. What else is changed or broken? This is, after all, a beta. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/computers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computers</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/HouseKeeping" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HouseKeeping</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>Silly PulseAudio! Why do you think my cans have a mic attached? When I unplugged the cans, the internal mic worked. I plug them back in, and the internal mic still works. <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Trisquel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trisquel</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/PulseAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PulseAudio</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>Watch Dave boot a Trisquel 11 Beta live system from his flash drive; this will be fun, you'll see... LOL! <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
🏳️‍🌈Superdave! 😘🍷👨‍🦯<p>Now that I've upgraded over 200 packages in this Bookworm installation, what's broken? LOL! <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://4bear.com/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a></p>
Dave (He/Him/His)<p>Debian Testing image written to flash drive. Let's boot it up and install to this J4, already; Hahaha. <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/installations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>installations</span></a></p>
Dave (He/Him/His)<p>A friend has installed the latest Debian Testing (Bookworm) onto his Del Latitude, and reports all hardware recognized and working. I will install it onto my Think Penguin J4, and expect no issues. The Think Penguin is made specifically to run without nonfree firmware needed. The J4 now has a derivative of PureOs. <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/GNU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNU</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/PureOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PureOS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/ComputerPlay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputerPlay</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/installations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>installations</span></a></p>
