For #Doorsday: A door at the bottom of some stone stairs at Ephrata Cloister, from my visit to Lancaster County, PA. Jonathan Groff made a promotional video for this place (he has roots in the area), so, being fans of Groff and theater, we had to go. It’s a lovely, tranquil place with some fascinating history, and I recommend taking the guided tour if you’re ever there.

A short stone staircase, in an old building of wood and stone, leads down to a shadowed landing where a doorway - blocked off by railing - offers a glimpse of a sunlit brick-paved courtyard. At the top of the stairs in the foreground is a low wooden gate, worn down by weather and time.

So busy today, I don't have the time to make up a good #Doorsday pun. 😥

Today's #door or rather #doors are not from a church, ha! It's from the old #post office in #Magdeburg. It's an impressive #historic building (built in 1895), not far from the Cathedral. Today it houses the Justice Centre, but a small part of it is still used as a #postOffice. The signs say "letters" and "telegrams".

The ornate entrance to a historic building, possibly a post office, is captured in a medium shot. The building's facade is constructed from light brown sandstone blocks, showing signs of weathering and age. Two arched doorways, each with intricately carved stone frames in a Gothic style, stand side by side. The left door is slightly ajar, revealing a dark interior, while the right door is closed. Both wooden doors feature decorative metalwork and small, diamond-patterned glass panes. Above the doorways, the stonework is even more elaborate, with sculpted figures and decorative elements. To the left of the left doorway, the word "Briefe" (German for "Letters") is inscribed in gold lettering on a rectangular plaque. #Doorsday's child has far to go ... all the way to #Córdoba in fact.

This is a lovely old #door from the Mosque-Cathedral or #Mezquita with details of #MoorishArchitecture. In fact, it's one of the oldest surviving gates of the former mosque! The door's decoration dates back to 855 when it was known as Bab al-Wuzara ("Viziers' Gate"). Lots of Al-Andalus state officials used to enter the mosque here. The Great Mosque of Córdoba was converted into a Catholic #cathedral in the 13th century. It's a World Heritage Site since 1984.

A weathered stone facade, likely part of a historic building such as the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba, dominates the frame. The stonework is a light beige, showing significant signs of age and erosion, with varied textures and uneven surfaces. A prominent horseshoe archway, characteristic of Moorish architecture, frames a set of aged, dark metal double doors. The arch is outlined in a lighter stone and features alternating red and white voussoirs. Above the archway, there is a rectangular panel with intricate, though worn, carvings. Flanking the central archway are sections of the stone wall with further decorative elements, including what appear to be blocked-up windows or niches with geometric patterns. The top of the facade is crenellated, with a series of rectangular merlons against a partly cloudy blue sky. The ground in front of the facade is paved with light-coloured stone slabs, showing some signs of wear.

🔔 Ring Ring! 🔔 It's #Doorsday!

Here we have the front door to Casa Caccianemici in Bologna. Last week, for window Friday, I showed you one of its windows.
Some of the building dates back to the 13th century, other parts to the 15th century. It used to be home to the Passapoveri tower. "Caccianemici" means "to throw out/get rid of enemies" - so I guess as long as you are on good terms with the homeowners, who were the Caccianemici, you're fine! 😂
