@joyousjoyness The cosmology surrounding the setting includes the plane of Lamannia, which represents the natural world and features creatures not just of typical size, but ones of various larger scales, including some so massive as to be living landscapes unto themselves!

Thus, perhaps a totem capybara might be a walking grassland with flowers and normal-size creatures upon its back.

Thank fuck it’s game day! Woooo!

Running a session of today. My players have concocted a scheme that will likely derail the direction I was thinking about taking the campaign. Good job I never plan that far ahead. 👍

#WritersCoffeeClub 25-04-12 How would you write a story with a cast of one? Could you?'

Liminal Shore

Nymeria sat a good ten paces up from the waters edge. She looked out across the vastness of the lake, staring at the mirage caused by the evapourating water in the distance. Beyond the distorted shimmying blob that would be Cree, was the woods she once called home. Her head swam with countless thoughts like fish lurking in a darkened river. They were there, but slipped through her fingers the moment she tried to catch one.

She left the fish to swim, and began disassembling her hand crossbow while maintaining eyes on horizon. Pull, unclip, unclip, detach, squeeze the trigger, unlock, slide out the bolt carriage, unclip the sled, release tension, twist out lock pin, dump out the spring.

She looked down at the symphony of parts laid out on the keffiyeh. She'd had it all these years, and it still fascinated her that a curly spring sandwiched in the stock performed the same as a regular bow limb. It was a little front heavy, but that worked in her favour when shooting, and the slimness made it easy to conceal like one of those loud sticks that belched acrid smoke and spit lead balls. She remembered how the noise hurt her ears more that slug of lead that hit her.

“What the fuck are those damn blustery things called? Mmh, right guns. Clumsy inelegant things.” she scoffed.

She produced two little metal vials from her pack. She unscrewed the cap of one, pulled out two patches of sail cloth, and began dry cleaning the hand crossbow. After removing the dust and dirt from the metal bits, she inspected the stock, checking for cracks or splintering. Her fingers traced over carved words,
“Silence in service,
Service in silence,
The loudest voice holds no faith.”

She smiled at the teeth marks left on the words on the opposite side.

“Faith protects…”

Faith, hadn't protected the mercenary from her wrath, or taking their gear to impersonate them

She flicked the sail cloth patches to knock excess dirt from them before putting them back into their metal vial. She opened the other metal vial, and pulled forth a well oiled bit of cloth made of three plys sewn together. Every part was rubbed thoroughly with the oiled cloth as she reassembled it. She gingerly tapped it on her head listening to make sure everything was put back together correctly.

She looked at the mirage in the distance, fading away as the sun changed position. Maybe she would stay at the shore another night, and head to Xanderar in the morning. Or maybe even jet right over to Erlaskar and skip across Silver Lake and pass through Shalavant without incident while the moon is new.

There were options, all leading along a circular path, none really more enticing than any other. She reflected deeply on this. She was somewhere, but nowhere at the same time.

Another paradox of her life.

Idly watching my players discuss their plans on our tiny Discord server. They seem to want to play two factions of House Cannith against each other. That’s … uh, definitely a plan with some chest hair.

#PennedPossibilities 634 — MC POV: How much do you value companionship? Do you always keep people around, or do you prefer to be alone?

Nymeria: "We're communal by nature, like regular wolves.
There's an intimacy that you kine lack in your communities.... Your shunting of people into designated areas to maintain the artifice of division.

I prefer keeping with company when possible. And preferably still, the company of kindred spirits."

#PennedPossibilities 632 — What originally inspired your WIP’s plot?

Well, the last campaign was in it's last leg, and the group had a light steampunk itch, so we decided on #Eberron for the next campaign. I'd already decided I wanted to play a #werewolf , then I started reading the Eberron setting material. I read about the Silver Crusade / Silver Purge where The Church of the Silver Flame 'valiantly' hunted therianthropes to near extinction to stop an outbreak and spread of them.
And me knowing the history of IRL similar events went
"This was an intentional genocide, and the spreading outbreak was a narrative to justify it."
And so I started writing "The Darkness of Silver", a collection of short stories revolving around Nymeria who was about 20 when the genocide started, her survival through it, and then dealing with the ripples from it.

(2) What do #Eberron fiends actually look like?

If running a fiend-heavy game one might be breaking out vrocks, hezrous, nalfeshnees, etc.

To me these don't look right as native fiends. I propose reskinning.

The only canon native fiends are the Rakshasa. They appear as normal tiger-people apart from the backwards hands.

I like the idea that khyber makes fiends to resemble mortals but it can never get it right. Tries to make a rabbit but it gets a jackalope instead.

Okay, time for some #Eberron ideas.

(1) According to K.Baker, Khyber aka Eberron's underdark is full of demiplanes. I can work with that but it strongly implies to me Khyber is its own plane or at least its own layer.

What if Siberys, Eberron and Khyber were three adjacent planes or layers of the material plane? I like this idea bc it implies there's cool stuff going on up in Siberys we just don't hear about it.

I'd like to think the moons are inhabited.

I wanted #Eberron gnomes who weren't defined by their nation's secret police. (Canon Eberron has pro-police sentiments fr.)

So I decided they must've created a penal colony at some point. I sited it in Lhazaar, decided it would've declared independence during the war,

and now there's an anarcho-capitalist island nation off my Eberron's Khorvaire's coast because obviously anarcho-capitalist gnomes will be an improvement

#PennedPossibilities 606 — Is your MC keeping any secrets? Can you tell us more without giving away any spoilers?

Nymeria has been hiding that she's a werewolf for the last 36 years, and masquerading as a Silver Pyre mercenary who are a quasi off-shoot/parallel group of the Silver Flame (yes the same bastards that carried out the genocide of her people).
She killed Jopaul (member of The Pure Flame who created the Feral Plague) 11years ago, and used the on going war between the kingdoms to quietly track down & destroy his remaining research whether or not it was even related to the how he created the Feral Plague.
So yeah, she's got massive secrets...

Third session was a blast. Annoyingly I made a couple of rookie GM errors due to a lapse in concentration, but my players seemed not to mind. Despite this, the murder was solved, and now the PCs have turned their attention to delving for loot.

After talking to one NPC who believes the Lord of Blades is a power-mad supremacist, one of my players started calling the warforged cult leader, "Steel-on Musk."

Saturday night was the first game in a while for me.

The party stopped an execution of political prisoners by burning, and also uncovered a plot to goad a resistance movement into "attacking first" so that the Archbishop could use the attack as an excuse to get permission for disproportionate force and gain notoriety and power within the Church of the Silver Flame for himself and the Pure Flame movement.

So of course they rushed straight into the cathedral. And that's where we ended.

In my #Eberron the language Giant is as much a language of arcane magic as Draconic if not more

After all how much high arcana must have been brought back from Xen'drik, advancing the state of arcane magic? The Cul'sir Empire was magitech before the Five Nations ever were and there's definitely been tech transfer there. And all of it written in Giant
