WonderdogCurrent mending project: this poor old pink and green quilt, which has been through the wash so many times. This time I grabbed it before it could go back into service, and started looking at just how badly it had worn, because I’ve been meaning to mend it for far too long. The binding needs replacing, that’s the easy part. I’ve started trimming away the worst of the pieces which have completely worn through, or where the fabric has shattered (this usually happens when a fabric is unstable due to dyeing or overprinting) and basting around those spots, and designing appliqué and embroidery to cover them. I didn’t label this quilt, but I think I designed and made it about 15 years ago. Once it’s repaired, it should last at least another 15. WonderdogArvo, Toots! Busy day. The dying cow scissor lift from hell (moooo bleep beep MOooOoo beep beep bleeep) started at 0630 and has brought its friend, the incessant stinking air compressor of about G# above middle C (it varies) which is going right through my broken teeth. (Headphones don't help.) Still, got out for a few hours. Found the bank branch had moved (Web site and Google maps not updated how unhelpful!) But found it, and ran into an old art teacher and caught up on our lives. Walked a lot, dropped some negatives in to print, went to mental health appointment. WonderdogArvo, Toots - so I didn’t do the legal paperwork today - instead having to work on household budget (for related reasons) and oh dear dog, I do not do maths well at the best of times. Have I ever mentioned that I came top of my school in 3 Unit English, and bottom of the school in Vege Maths? I stopped understanding maths in about 6th grade, and this was a source of conflict between me and Mum, who. - yep, was a maths and science teacher! And having almost worked out the budget - just a few more things to add in - the $%&^*! Internet provider has just announced their pricing is going up $5 a month - and this after dumping email services last year? If I had any spoons left I’d change, but right now, when it would mean organising a new modem/router and … nope. Guess I’m paying a loyalty tax for a little while. ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHH! I have been cleaning today, putting yet more loads of things through the wash (probably at enooooormous expense, & please, if you would read that in the manner of a Victorian Music Hall compère, thank you). My face does not like it when I bend down to sweep or put things into rubbish bags, so that’s quite enough of that. Instead, I’m going to sit quietly with my hand sewing & mend some things that have needed it for ages. WonderdogFinally had my old watch in the right place at the right time (grin) and popped into the local clock repairer. New battery, and new band (oops, try again - longer band, my wrists are bigger than standard watch bands!) Hope to be able to afford to replace the scratched glass one day. This was given to me in the 80's. Thanks, long ago fiancé. WonderdogCurrently reading "The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: How to free yourself and your family from a lifetime of clutter" and it's reminding me of how my sister organised her possessions before she died in 2005, and what a wonderful gift that was for executors and family. Her treasures went to loved ones with reasons why. WonderdogSo, in an attempt to keep going with the <a href="https://bne.social/tags/decluttering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#decluttering</a> and <a href="https://bne.social/tags/cleaning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#cleaning</a>, every time I put something away now, I’m assessing if I need to keep it - and other things that are next to it (if I have the <a href="https://bne.social/tags/spoons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#spoons</a>) - and saying “Is this really the best place for this thing, do I need to keep this thing?” Many bags of rubbish. Many bags of things to donate. WonderdogIn significant decluttering news - I have reached the sewing machine in the sewing room! to the point where I can oil the machine, run on a bobbin, thread it, and do an emergency hem tonight. No, the floor isn’t vacuumed because the vacuum filter was completely clogged with fine dust, and needed to be washed, and will take 24 hours to dry; and there’s is still sorting, decluttering and dealing with THOSE BLOODY MICE 🐭☠️ to do.
