Six hours of driving for my son’s soccer tournament… finally, beer
I drive a lot for my son’s soccer - training, games, etc - so I drive far less for fly fishing

The question was not which fly I use, but how I needed to cast it to reach my target
There were two options: a side cast through the 3-foot gap under the tree, or a roll cast through the 3-foot space between the trees growing on both banks

I won’t have time for fly fishing next weekend since my son has a soccer tournament, but I might try to find some nearby water for quick fly fishing or at least stroll around some creeks
The complex water columns and currents But the plunging water and bubbles create just enough cover to let me cast repeatedly without spooking the trout, until the fly is hit by a trout lurking in the deep water
They are typically found in locations where fly casting is more challenging
The fly needs to either go under the log or land just beyond it
Valley Creek, PA
I’m sure I make plenty of mistakes while fishing
But fewer mistakes usually mean more trout
One big mistake - my mind drifted right after a seemingly perfect cast, and I lost one of the two trout that hit my fly
Crum Creek, PA
I visit this creek once or twice a year, and this time the timing was perfect for White Sucker spawning
I saw them making noise in the riffles - pretty impressive
An aggressive Fallfish wrecked my hi-vis dry fly, which I was just using as an indicator
The creek banks and trails are starting to green up, and the fish are getting more active
I caught my first Bluegill of the year from this creek definitely felt like spring
Crum Creek, PA
I had a full weekend of activities, but winding down with fly fishing brings a peaceful Sunday. When my mind is calm and clear, there are no lost flies, no tangled line, and no snags on trees
Valley Creek, PA
Although the weather was nice yesterday, I only saw one other person in this nature preserve
The Sucker Run
Hard to spot, but a couple of White Suckers are spawning in a shallow riffle
I saw many like this today, I tried not to bother them
Trout season opens near me next Saturday. The closest spot is this 1.5-2 acre pond in a county park. Trout are catch and keep as the water will be too warm for them live through the summer. Didn't see any "risers" This pond also has bass, catch and release only.
The nearest stream trout fishing is in the Driftless Area of IL, WI, & Iowa near Galena. Good trout water in north Wisconsin & U.P. Michigan, too.
Every good fishing camp has a good camp dog. I think it's a law.
Their jobs include greeting boats when tieing up, checking out the catch, bear alarm, jumping in the water for no reason, going cabin to cabin to look in the windows to see if anyone is there, begging for something to eat if someone is inside, and pushing in the door and sleeping in the cabin if they feel like it.

Looks like I have time to fly fish tomorrow
In March, I have to drive a bit farther to reach creeks that are open for fishing. While those spots are generally considered better, I still prefer fishing closer to home, even if the conditions aren’t ideal for fishing
Spring break, so I got to spend a little time at one of my favorite little streams, Crane Creek. I caught one wild rainbow, but the best thing was seeing a straight-up beaver dam! #flyfishing

I saw some trout and big White Suckers here I didn’t catch any, which didn’t bother me, until I heard, as I was heading to my car, that someone had landed a White Sucker on a fly
That angler knows fish
My competitive side was starting to surface
[In] the mind of every angler, there is a mythical fish. For trout fishermen, it might be an Atlantic salmon on a fly-rod - that whole sport of kings thing. For nothern pike fisherman, it might be a musky. Interestingly, for bass fishermen, it's just a bigger bass.

I haven’t caught a trout from this spot for quite some time, but I know they’re there, which motivates me to keep trying
I like this area. Popular with dog walkers, so not ideal for fishing But there are times when there is nobody, and I can fully enjoy fishing
If dogs are enjoying the water, I simply enjoy the scenery
Pickering Creek, PA
I can’t see the water
But hoping to find a nice spot beyond the piles of big fallen trees
