The Swamp Wytch<p>For this "Fool's Day", I offer up my favorite trickster - Brer Rabbit (Brother Rabbit). The African roots of the southern "Uncle Remus Tales" are an important topic! This is one fascinating book to share (see alt). <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23WitchSky" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WitchSky</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23Folklore" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Folklore</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23AfricanFolktales" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#AfricanFolktales</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>An entry from Francis Harper's "Okefinokee Album", mentions the Chesser family of swampers. I find their remedy for stopping a screech owl from scaring you quite intriguing! The index finger is often associated with Jupiter, and authority/confidence/power. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23SwampSunday" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SwampSunday</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23OkefenokeeSwamp" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#OkefenokeeSwamp</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>I stated in a post the other day that I'm not a wand person. I'm a blade or staff person. So I thought I'd share a pic of some of my blades, for a variety of purposes. Do you use blades in your practice? <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23WitchSky" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WitchSky</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23Blades" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Blades</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>The Five-Spot, Crossroads... Whatever name, this is place of portable power. Southern Conjure speaks of meeting "the Devil"/"The Big Black Man" there &amp; through sacrifice he imbues the Conjure person with a gift(s). Classic musical storytelling! <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23WitchSky" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WitchSky</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23Conjure" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Conjure</a> <a href="https://youtu.be/fgRZgx3jxHY?si=YK8a0YAb3KrDpv4S" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">youtu.be/fgRZgx3jxHY?...</a><br><br><a href="https://youtu.be/fgRZgx3jxHY?si=YK8a0YAb3KrDpv4S" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Black Spider Dumpling - Sold I...</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>Any of my friendly witches out there ever made cordage out of nettle? The Swamp Wytch<p>Cecile Hulse Matschat, a geographer &amp; botanist, wrote about her time living in the Okefenokee Swamp in her seminal ethnography "Suwannee River: Strange Green Land" (published 1938). One figure she writes about she calls "Snake Woman". The Swamp Wytch<p>Getting back to a magical project that's been in the works for awhile. Got my hands on some ethically sourced alligator scutes as one ingredient in the mix. The Swamp Wytch<p>The hardest physical journey (other than childbirth) I have ever undertaken was climbing The Reek (Croagh Patrick) in Ireland. It was in 2000. I can't imagine making the climb now, yet people far older than I still do. The Swamp Wytch<p>I'm curious if anyone here has ever worked with a bezoar stone aka "madstone"? My husband has been looking for one specifically in deer for years for me with no luck. The Swamp Wytch<p>I'm so happy to be able to finally set up a memorial on FindAGrave for a person who's grave I've been visiting for 15 years. Thankful a city employee was willing to help me. He will always be the "Jazz Man" to me. If no one else remembers you, I will. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23HazzardHill" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#HazzardHill</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23Necromancy" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Necromancy</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>Who else loves a stroll through an old cemetery? They are one of my favorite places - for many reasons. I spent over an hour strolling through one of my favorite local ones today. It's wonderful when research, work, and relationship building starts to pay off. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23WitchSky" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WitchSky</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23necromancy" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#necromancy</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>Cunning Folk look to nature for knowledge of healing, hexing, and how to live in harmony with the Land. There is much to be learned from the Song of the Okefenokee, as sung by the prevalent frog species there. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23SwampSunday" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SwampSunday</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23OkefenokeeSwamp" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#OkefenokeeSwamp</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23WitchSky" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WitchSky</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a> (1 of 2 - recording in second post!)</p>

The Swamp Wytch<p>Day 3: What’s an underrated magical herb? Yarrow (achillea millefolium). Within Pellorys (Cornish Craft), it is known to be a strong herb for divination and protects such work. Yarrow stalks can be used in various casting forms of divination as well. The Swamp Wytch<p>Two animal allies in Southern Conjure &amp; Rootwork are the raccoon and opossum. Raccoons, lil'bandits - sly, ultimate survivors; Opossums - cunning of life, death, &amp; resurrection, wise trickster spirit sometimes connected to fire/Sun. The Swamp Wytch<p>"SUWANNEE RIVER: Strange Green Land" by Cecile H Matschat (pub 1938) begins with the source of the famous Suwannee River - my beloved Okefenokee Swamp. This first passage captures so much that can be said about this primordial place! <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23SwampSunday" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SwampSunday</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23Okefenokee" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Okefenokee</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>Pogo was a daily comic strip that was created by cartoonist Walt Kelly &amp; syndicated to American newspapers from 1948 until 1975. Set in the Okefenokee Swamp, Pogo followed the adventures of its anthropomorphic animal characters, including the title character. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23SwampSunday" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SwampSunday</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23WitchSky" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WitchSky</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>The Good Folk, the Fair Folk, or as I call them The Gentry. The Swamp Wytch<p>Many labels can describe me; aspects of the whole. One is Folkwitch. Centered upon the land where I live, the stories it has to tell, &amp; the spirits which reside alongside me. I practice the magic "of the folk". Forever student, explorer, walker between the realms. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23witchmadness" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#witchmadness</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23witchsky" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#witchsky</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23Folkwitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Folkwitch</a></p>
The Swamp Wytch<p>Sunshower Lore often involves ol' Scratch, or a trickster being "sinful". Here in the south you'll hear "The Devil is beating his wife". Caribbean: "A Witch is marrying." Catalonia: "Witches are combing their hair." All of these point to hidden lore. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkloreThursday" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkloreThursday</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23Weather" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Weather</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23FolkWitch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#FolkWitch</a> 📷 unknown</p>
