Well, I did a deeply terrifying thing, but also strangely cathartic and vulnerable. I participated in a Puppet Karaoke ( at Gencon ).
I often wear a 'mask' wherein I mimic people around me or hide who I truly am or what I truly am feeling at any given moment. You would think the Puppet is just another mask, but no it was something far more profound than that.
The puppet was a 'safe' extension of my inner self. It was a way to both interact with other humans, while also allowing me to fix my eyes on the manipulation of the puppet. This felt safer than actually looking at a crowd of people, but it also lead to a kind of deep and satisfying level of vulnerability I don't often feel. Unfortunately, the whole experience was followed by anxiety and panic, but while I was in the moment it was amazing.
