I keep thinking my Arabic sucks, and I should be able to speak it much better having been in #Jordan for 9 months now, but I managed to walk into a medical supply store, and bought a replacement CPAP mask when the person working there didn’t speak English.

My Arabic still sucks, but those sorts of interactions are so important as they reinforce that my efforts in learning Arabic aren’t in vein.

Beautiful Petra, a sight to behold both day and night. Living testament to the silk road and bedouin culture. A tourist trap - and home to the bedouins.
When I visited in 2016 we were kindly invited by the bedouins to stay a night in one of the caves. An experience I will always cherish and remember.

It's still quiet outside. Due to Eid starting on Monday many people are off for most of the week - usually at this time traffic is busy at the circle not far from our house, not so today, especially schools, universities and government workplaces are closed. Tomorrow - I'm not sure. But in the evening many are going out, visiting, shopping (the children want to spend their Eid money, and many women, too).

A few years ago I set out to what turned out to be the most incredible trip along the silk road from the deserts of Jordan till the mega cities of China.
Through all countries and cultures I was humbled by the kindness and hospitality of the people and awestruck by the spectacular scenery of deserts and mountains. Thanks to each and every person I met along the way. I will be back.

A long time ago, when they were still new, I read the first seven books of wheel of time. I stopped because the middle books started to drag.

Watching the series renewed my interest. So I started listening to Gathering Storm, the 12th book.

I figured the last three books should give me a solid ending. I know it’s cheating, but there you go.
