Good News Community<p>Saulteau First Nation in northeast B.C. is reclaiming abandoned oil wells to restore traditional lands. The initiative, Aski Reclamation, has planted over 9,000 trees, restoring biodiversity and bringing back medicinal plants. This effort not only repairs environmental damage but also strengthens the Nation’s connection to their land.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/goodnews" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>goodnews</span></a></span> </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.cosmicnation.co/tags/GoodNews" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GoodNews</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cosmicnation.co/tags/IndigenousLeadership" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IndigenousLeadership</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cosmicnation.co/tags/EnvironmentalReclamation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EnvironmentalReclamation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cosmicnation.co/tags/SaulteauFirstNation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SaulteauFirstNation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cosmicnation.co/tags/LandRestoration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LandRestoration</span></a><br><a href="https://thenarwhal.ca/aski-saulteau-first-nation-oil-wells-reclamation/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">thenarwhal.ca/aski-saulteau-fi</span><span class="invisible">rst-nation-oil-wells-reclamation/</span></a></p>
Carolannie<p>“Sunday morning, up with the lark<br>I think I'll take a walk in the park<br>Hey, hey, hey, it's a beautiful day” Beautiful Sunday lyrics by Green &amp; Baife<br>It was a beautiful Sunday, a real spring day in Seattle. Ambling along woodland trails, we spotted some nice flowering natives. This false Solomons seal (Maianthemum racemosum) is almost done with its flowering and ready to go to fruit (which are apparently edible). The red twig dogwoods (Cornus sericea) are in full bloom as well. The red alders (Alnus rubra) growing in the muddy marshy spot at the foot of the little hill have lovely bark. <br>Please note that a lot of the natives I now see are courtesy of the untiring work of many Seattle Parks volunteers, ripping out truckloads of English ivy and Himalayan blackberry and then doing yearly. It’s incredible and valuable work, making our corner of the world more ecologically sound and native pollinator friendly.<br><a href="https://c.im/tags/Photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Photography</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/PNW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PNW</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/NativesPlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NativesPlants</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/LandRestoration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LandRestoration</span></a></p>

Kimberley Crofts<p>In the next two decades 17 coal mines will close in Australia's Hunter Valley and 130,000 hectares of land will be available for new uses. First, though, it needs to be restored. </p><p>This is the challenge I've worked on over the past half a year with the community org Hunter Renewal. This report, released today, puts forward the community's perspective on what should happen when coal mining finishes. </p><p>There is also a supporting <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@theconversationau" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>theconversationau</span></a></span> article as a summary</p><p><a href="https://www.hunterrenewal.org.au/restoration_blueprint" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">hunterrenewal.org.au/restorati</span><span class="invisible">on_blueprint</span></a></p><p><a href="https://theconversation.com/we-need-to-restore-the-land-as-coal-mines-close-heres-a-community-blueprint-to-sustain-the-hunter-valley-198792" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">theconversation.com/we-need-to</span><span class="invisible">-restore-the-land-as-coal-mines-close-heres-a-community-blueprint-to-sustain-the-hunter-valley-198792</span></a></p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/SustainabilityTransitions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SustainabilityTransitions</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/CoalMining" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CoalMining</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/LandRestoration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LandRestoration</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/MineRehabilitation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MineRehabilitation</span></a></p>
