Mark A. ⏏️ {FalconMarkSix}<p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/MyFirstDistro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MyFirstDistro</span></a> was <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Mandriva" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mandriva</span></a>. This was in Christmas 2006 or 2007 when I was handed my first laptop. Although Mandriva's default desktop environment was KDE, I was using GNOME since I liked how it worked. I tried Ubuntu for half a day before switching to Mandriva.</p><p>The author Steven Brust who wrote the Firefly novel "My Own Kind of Freedom" mentioned using its predecessor, Mandrake, in his free book:</p><blockquote><p>For people who care about such things, the book was written in emacs on a box running Mandrake Linux, then I used OpenOffice to format it for printing. The final layout for online publication was created with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. People who care about such things need to get a life.</p></blockquote><p>Being a big fan of Firefly at the time I thought it was pretty cool. So there began my journey in FOSS. I have Mandriva's successor, Mageia w/ KDE, on a USB I update every now and then.</p><p>And PS Mr. Brust I have a life!! :blobfoxwinkmlem:</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/MandrivaLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MandrivaLinux</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Mandrake" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mandrake</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/MandrakeLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MandrakeLinux</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Mageia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mageia</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/MageiaLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MageiaLinux</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Firefly" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Firefly</span></a></p>
