MDMRN<p>So, Viz's Shonen Jump app is now going to simulpub the newest series from Yuuki Kawaguchi, who created "The Hunters Guild: Red Hood." For reference, I loved that series and own it physically. </p><p>First chapter sold me. It's a Viking narrative set in a world where an ice kingdom has taken over. A poor teenager goes out to become a chef for frontline warriors to raise money for his sister back home. As the ice kingdom attacks, flame powers awaken and he kicks some ice monster / ice wizard butt.</p><p>This could be fun. MDMRN<p>Re-Read - Your Lie in April, Volume 8</p><p>Once again, as I re-read this volume one image stood out to me.</p><p>For context, Kōsei is describing the girl he's fallen for. How incredible she is and how she inspired him. MDMRN<p>Re-Read - Your Lie in April, Volume 7</p><p>I am going to share one page from this volume.</p><p>This one.</p><p>In this panel, Tsubaki finally understands her own feelings. It all hits her, head on.</p><p>She realizes that she's in love with Kōsei. And has been. And that's why she's not able to fully commit to her boyfriend. That's why she has such extreme emotions about him playing the piano. MDMRN<p>New Manga Read - Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Volume 11</p><p>The first half finished the tale of the battle to beat Macht of the Golden Lands and it's so well done. Denken gets a great chance to shine, so does Frieren. Also, Frieren gets to show how she's grown as a person in trusting her allies. It was so well done.</p><p>The second half was a string of short self-contained chapters with little stories. MDMRN<p>This is the final panel of Volume 6. </p><p>In it, Kosei is playing the piano and Hiroko is thinking. She is the reason Kosei started on the piano and she feels personally responsible for some of the pain and abuse he received from his mother. She feels responsible for the pain he feels now, and that he can't hear the music.</p><p>She knows Kosei still loves his late mother and the piano. MDMRN<p>This panel hits me for some reason. </p><p>Kosei has been playing the piano more. He's been more active. He's been wallowing in his own sorrow less and Kaori thinks he looks taller.</p><p>Why? He's looking up.</p><p>It's metaphorical to a certain degree, but Kosei had been stuck in a rut of sorrow. MDMRN<p>Re-Read - Your Lie in April, Volume 6</p><p>As I have been trying to do, I'm going to go through impactful panels from Your Lie in April instead of rehashing each volume.</p><p>This volume, I chose three panels. </p><p>The first is a vertically aligned panel that shows the characters all sitting there, looking at the night sky. This happens right after Kosei almost drowns and explains how at the piano, this was how he felt. Like he was drowning.</p><p>But there is light in the distance. MDMRN<p>Second - Lots of secret talks happened that the reader doesn't know between Kenshiro and Raoh. It's not a bad thing, per say, but it's a lot and a lot to reveal all at once. It still leads to some poignant moments, but it's also gives way to "Huh" a few times.</p><p>Finally - once more, having feelings, allowing yourself to love, conquers all. MDMRN<p>New Read - Fist of the North Star, Volume 16 (Viz Hardcover Edition)</p><p>Another fantastic, violent volume of Fist of the North Star. Kenshiro has his final battle with Kaioh and so many secrets about the past are revealed. Also, Bat returns to carry Rin off into the sunset.</p><p>Big moments: First- Kenshiro recognized that he should not be with Rin. Rin always "loved him" in that she looked up to him, not romantically. Bat loved her so fiercely, always. And she loved him too. MDMRN<p>So, Nice Prison is a new manga series. I'm down to try a first chapter of a new series, so I checked it out. MDMRN<p>The second panel is so bright. </p><p>It's a moment with Kaori and Kosei where they are in a field of fireflies.</p><p>She's asking what's driving him. He says it's her. She's what's motivating him to keep on going, keep on playing the piano.</p><p>It's a sweet and sad moment. His motivation when he was little was his Mom. Now it's Kaori. </p><p>This moment, though. I remember it from the anime and in the manga, it's just as well done. I narrowed it down to two I wanted to discuss.</p><p>This is the first.</p><p>Kosei is on the piano and he's hearing his mother's voice in his head saying that "Solitude is [his] punishment." </p><p>It's chilling and the shading in this scene making it appear as though the shadows are enclosing him. It had an interesting premise, but overall...eh, it was okay. </p><p>The ending, though, just rushed through a quick "Oh, let's explain where the magic powers showed up from really, really fast by shoving way too much into the very final chapter." Like, an until that point unknown sibling who was actually an alien? And her powers and a different sibling are the reason the world got weird and these "astros" showed up? </p><p>I am wracking my brain for any hint of this prior to this point. MDMRN<p>Re-Read - Your Lie in April, Volume 4</p><p>I read Volumes 4 and 5 this past weekend and, once again, I wanted to talk about some striking panels. </p><p>This one is of Emi giving her performance. It is toward the end of her performance and the characters are seeing color in her music. But, also her emotions played out for all to see. Loneliness. MDMRN<p>New Read - Delicious in Dungeon, Volume 1</p><p>Okay, volume 1 sold me. It sold me hard.</p><p>Basic premise is that a band of fantasy adventurers get through a dungeon, only to be so hungry that they cannot fight against a red dragon and one of their compatriots is swallowed whole by the dragon.</p><p>So, after regrouping, they decide to go back. But, like they need to eat along the way. </p><p>Enter Senshi. Senshi helps teach them how to cook monster they find in the dungeons and it's so much fun.</p><p>Glad I picked this up. MDMRN<p>This is another panel that is just striking to me.</p><p>The parallels between how Kaori pushes Kosei into the piano and his mother are many. However, unlike his mother, she recognizes something - what she is doing is too much.</p><p>After a while she has this revelation that she's pushed him so far without considering his feelings. This is that moment.</p><p>It's powerful because his mother never once self-reflects.
