Saw that this was posted over on LinkedIn by the National Science Foundation about 21 hours ago. The funding agency now appears to be actively terminating grants. Would be interested in any first-hand stories from professional scientists or highly qualified personnel (students) on NSF grants about direct impacts.

NSF apparently in the midst of some political mess, terminating awards "those on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and misinformation/disinformation."
(apparently this administration is pro disinformation, and continues to attempt to push white supremacy as a policy into the federal government).

PS: This one is more personal for me. In 1996 I visited Palmer Station, an NSF-funded base for polar biology on Anvers Island off the Antarctic Peninsula, and had a wonderful talk and tour with its director, Polly Penhale.

Many folks are hurting right now, but there are pockets of opportunity… Are you an organisational powerhouse with a passion for open source and open science? @NumFOCUS, which supports projects including @numpy, @Spyder, @napari and many more, is looking for its next Executive Director. A *lot* of potential for positive impact!
The program was already highly competitive, w/just 16% of applicants getting fellowships, because the 3 yrs of unrestricted financial support it offers can be what it takes to get into a certain grad school, or to study w/ a particular mentor or in a particular lab—or, in some cases, to pursue a line of inquiry that might not have support elsewhere.
Now even fewer of the nation’s most promising scientists-in-training will get that funding.

Update. Phillip Levine lists the 77 US #universities that stand to lose the most from three kinds of funding cuts threatened by the #Trump admin: (1) capping indirect costs for #NIH grants at 15%, (2) cutting the #NSF budget by two-thirds, and (3) endowment taxes.
