Lots of folks out and about in the park today, including a trickle of sign-lugging folks taking the bike path homeward from the local Hands Off rally site about a half-mile away. Alas, the rally itself would have been way beyond the CrankyBod's abilities, but I'm glad to at least witness the fringes while I get some nature therapy.

A tree-lined riverside bike path on a sunny spring afternoon in the Pacific Northwest. The branches on all the deciduous trees lining both banks of the river are covered in light green buds. The river is full but smooth-running and silvery turquoise; the sky is deep blue towards zenith, edged with white cloudy haze at the horizon.

I've had quite a week, so I am enjoying the morning in my lovely neighbourhood park. Over the years, this neglected green spot in my town had endured developers trying to destroy it for luxury condos, decay during the lockdowns to now being a community hub at last for the townspeople. This is a private park not council owned, and I guess the co realised that instead of earning the ire of the people, they'd build the place into a community centre where they can not only earn good CSR points and goodwill, but also earned some cash.
Lots of cafes here, and an event space that can be rented.

So it looks like I'm celebrating spring equinox with a run through a quick-car-lube joint followed by a caffeine break at my favorite accessible riverside hang. The service folk were refreshingly helpful and free from snooty vibes re my admittedly disheveled old van, I got out of there for cheaper than I feared, and now I'm being treated to the occasional honks of overhead geese trading signals with a passing freight train. This area has several at-grade crossings through high density neighborhoods, which can make for some interesting views and occasional traffic drama. There's also repair work happening to the nearest automobile bridge over that busy rail line; that overpass gets a significant volume of semi trucks and other business traffic, and has been looking more beat-up than I care to think, so I'm glad it's getting redone before it joins the bridge failure stats.

A tree-lined riverside bike path on a rainy first day of spring in the US Pacific Northwest. The river is an opaque light mud-brown, running full and forceful due to upstream runoff. The trees on both its banks are leafless and a bit bedraggled, but the grass bordering the rain-slicked asphalt paths is all happy and green. The sky is solid white overcast but with layers that are moving with the weather front.
