Lilbits: ZimaBoard 2 pocket-sized server is coming, Alexa+ Early Access is here, and more Copilot+ features roll out to Intel and AMD PCs

Four years after launching a single-board server with an Intel Apollo Lake processor, the makers of the ZimaBoard are preparing to introduce a new model. The company hasn’t provided detailed specifications yet, but the design, expansion slots, and processor have all been upgraded for the upcoming ZimaBoard 2.

In other recent tech news from around the web, Amazon is rolling out an Early […]

Figuring out that SBCs (raspberry pi & similar) are not my fav. Running OS from an SD card, limited IO and less popular CPU architecture add up to a less than smooth experience while trying to do basic tasks.

For specialized hardware (like an IoT device or maybe even a robot), they may be a great choice. But just as a "small, cheap, quiet computer" I would pick an x86 mini PC.

Are you an #SBC enjoyer? What do you use it for?

hi people im looking for a cheap low-power home server board to wake my desktop from and serve as file hosting (probably a syncthing node)

should i get an intel NUC or a Pi or one of Pi clones?

this is purely a practical question, i am not looking to sell off my house to get an ampere altra

Rule no 1 in being a healthy #autistic person is "Though shalt not read nor watch stuff by/with #SBC" - but if you would just read these quotes of this recent interview all would be fine:

"If he had a single piece of advice for teachers working with autistic pupils, what would it be? “It is all about asking the individual, what do you need? If they need predictability, always sit them in the same place. Or a quieter environment, then arrange it. Have some compassion.”"

Upgrades of #websites usually come without warnings and system requirements. The attached screenshot is what I see when trying to connect to Ars Technica from my Firefox. Upgrading stuff like Firefox, #WebGL, and even my #FreeBSD system does not solve the problem: I cannot surf normally.
OTOH, it works fine on my smartphone. I will try it on my #SBC today. Yes, I favor switching to them computers if the thing I should upgrade is the motherboard.
