Do check out the different fediverse software.<br><br>For example, generally it is understood that: <br>* </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Mastodon" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mastodon</a><span>, and its forks, is a heavy on the backend for a solo instance.<br>* </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Misskey" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Misskey</a><span>, </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Calckey" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Calckey</a><span>, </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Foundkey" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Foundkey</a><span>, </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Meisskey" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Meisskey</a><span>, and other forks, are the “medium” class on the backend for a solo instance.<br>* While </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Pleroma" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Pleroma</a><span>, and its forks ( </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Akkoma" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Akkoma</a><span> and </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Rebased" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Rebased</a><span>), are the lightweight class.<br><br>Of course, they have different UI and UX, features, and what not.<br><br>If you plan to have a family/friends-only instance, there are </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Friendica" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Friendica</a><span> and </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Hubzilla" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Hubzilla</a><span>. Both are more </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/SNS-like" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SNS-like</a><span> similar to Facebook, in terms of approach and features. Also, they have an amazing set of permissions, which gives users a greater control on their </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/privacy" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#privacy</a><span> settings. For Hubzilla, and its sister project </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/Streams" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Streams</a><span>, they have the most requested feature: </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/DataPortability" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#DataPortability</a><span> (which it calls </span><a href="https://calckey.social/tags/NomadicIdentity" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NomadicIdentity</a><span>). You can clone your channel/profile in other Hubzilla and Streams server, they will always be kept in sync, and if one instance goes down… you can just login to the other instance you cloned into earlier. You can also setup to have a solo Hubzilla or Streams server, and have a separate one for family and friends, and have your channel/profile cloned there.<br><br>Hope it helps!</span></p>
