#FolkloreSunday: `According to Seán Ó Duinn in his book, In Search of the Awesome Mysteries, at #Samhain, groups of masked men dressed as the ancient Gods, or the Sidhe would rampage through villages demanding food and drink from house-holders. In those days, most homes had a central hearth. If the house-holder was generous, the masked men would line up and proceed around the hearth fire deiseal-wise, keeping the fire on their right, to bring the inhabitants good fortune for the following year. If the house-holder was mean, the men would proceed tuathal-wise instead before leaving. This was certainly an early version of today’s ‘trick or treating’.` #Celtic

Just spotted a magazine 200 Greatest Goth Albums. Read through the listing but wouldn't consider all of the albums to be #Goth (#Mogwai's The Hawk is Howling ?? #Samhain ??? #Ministry???)

had hoped for more than a little square on each record but as that was it besides the big spreads on some bands (which all looked like recycled articles) not sure what the point is beyond the list (see link below)

acclaimedmusic.net/forums/view

as for the rankings well that would be personal taste

#FolkloreSunday: `Nera had seen the destruction of the royal hall of Connacht. So he followed the attacking aos sidhe through the cave Oweynagat into the elven mound of Crúachan. After his discovery, he was supposed to be the slave of an elf woman, but became her lover. The Sidhe finally told him that the attack had not yet taken place, but would only be carried out on the coming #Samhain. Nera went back to Crúachan and successfully warned King Ailill and Queen Medb. The fact that he was able to produce summer herbs in winter not only proved the truth of his words, but also that he had travelled back in time. Incidentally, Nera went back to his lover in the sidhe.` #Celtic

#WyrdWednesday: It was on #Samhain when `in the midst of the second battle of Magh Tuireadh the battle-fury came on Lugh, and he rushed out before all his people and with his sling of fire threw a magic ball of light into Balor's eye of death, so that the giant Fomorian died and his people were utterly routed.`

#BookologyThursday: MacCulloch: `#Samhain may be regarded as, in origin, an old pastoral and agricultural festival, which in time came to be looked upon as affording assistance to the powers of growth in their conflict with the powers of blight. Perhaps some myth describing this combat may lurk behind the story of the battle of Magh Tuireadh fought on Samhain between the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Fomorians.` „While the powers of blight are triumphant in winter, the Tuatha Dé are represented as the victors, though they suffer loss and death. Perhaps this enshrines the belief in the continual triumph of life and growth over blight and decay, or it may arise from the fact that Samhain was both a time of rejoicing for the ingathered harvest, and of wailing for the coming supremacy of winter and the reign of the powers of blight.“

#BookologyThursday: Ruth Edna Kelley: `Samhain was then a day sacred to the death of the sun, on which had been paid a sacrifice of death to evil powers. Though overcome at Moytura, evil was ascendant at #Samhain. Methods of finding out the will of spirits and the future naturally worked better then, charms and invocations had more power, for the spirits were near to help, if care was taken not to anger them, and due honors paid.` #Celtic

#MythologyMonday: `Airitech had three daughters who were werewolves. Every #Samhain, they emerged from the Cave of Cruachan, said to be a gateway to the #Otherworld, to kill sheep. They liked music, so the poet Cas Corach played his harp to distract them, and persuaded them to change back into their human form. Caoilte, a warrior of the #Fianna, then cast a spear that penetrated all three at once, and so they were killed.` #Celtic
